Best Available: 2018 SG
The senior seasons have concluded for the class of 2018. Now it is time for them to focus on their futures in college. For many that means taking visits and making a call. Others there is still work to be done playing in unsigned senior showcases or this spring on the travel team circuit to try to get more attention from college coaches. We recently released our final 2018 rankings. With that being said we are breaking down the Best Available at each position in the state. Here are the top unsigned shooting guards on the board!
Zion Young (Simeon)
Level Projection: LM
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Young is a super athletic and strong wing that didn’t have the most productive senior campaign at his new school, but we are big fans of his potential. Plays above the rim and can shoot it from deep.
Robert Harvey (Hillcrest)
Level Projection: LM/D2+
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Harvey struggled last spring/summer on the circuit, but made a major leap forward as a senior at Hillcrest. He was very impressive with his ability to score in bunches shooting it from three and using his athleticism in the open floor.
Damaria Franklin (Niles North)
Level Projection: D2/JUCO
Travel Team: Pure Prep
Franklin is a big and strong wing that isn’t the tallest. He can really shoot it off the catch from beyond the arc. Quick release and is consistent threat. Like what he brings defensively with toughness and has a knack for getting steals.
RJ McGee (Kenwood)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Wisconsin Playground Elite
McGee started off hot at the beginning of the high school season with some big performances in marquee events. The production dipped at times. You have to like his projectability, athleticism, and potential as a shooter.
Quinlan Bennett (Kenwood)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Kessel Heat
Bennett is a smooth scoring two guard that struggled with injuries during the first half of the high school season. Plus mid-range shooter that handles the ball getting to his spots.
Eddie Creal (Romeoville)
Level Projection: JUCO
Travel Team: Hoops4Health
Creal is one of the best athletes in the class with explosion above the rim. Elite finisher in transition that also flashes scoring off the bounce in the half court. Shot making is up and down.
Anthony Lynch (Larkin)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Kessel Heat
Lynch isn’t the greatest athlete, but he knows how to put the ball in the hoop. Productive wing that scores well in the half court. Steal at D2 level with his scoring, toughness, and IQ.
Isaiah Saulsberry (Harrisburg)
Level Projection: D2
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
Saulsberry can really score it! One of the better pure scorers and shooters in southern Illinois. Pure shooting stroke from three that can mix in scores off bounce. Excellent D2 prospect.
Justin Boyd (Whitney Young)
Level Projection: D3+
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Boyd is a rangy three and D guy that is at his best shooting off the catch and guarding in the backcourt.
Peter Lambesis (St. Viator)
Level Projection: D3+
Travel Team: Funadmental U
Lambesis’ versatility is his calling card! He stuffs the stat sheet and scores well in that 15 foot range. Sound wing passer.
Jayden Gasby (Curie)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Team Rose
Gasby got lost in the shuffle this year for Curie. Showed pop as a scorer at Urban Prep Englewood throughout his early career. Strong and athletic wing.
Kenny Strawbridge (Rockford Lutheran)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Strawbridge posted strong numbers as a senior. Quality shooter from the perimeter. Never really showed his ability at a high level on the circuit.
Jordan Matthews (St. Rita)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Team Rose
Matthews is a lefty shooting guard that is crafty with the ball in his hands. Gets in the lane and finishes through contact. Passes well being able to play point in a pinch.
Ryan Kutsor (Lake Zurich)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Kessel Heat
Kutsor is a 6’4” shooting guard that can let it fly from the perimeter. Brings floor spacing and rebounding from the wing to the table.
Cory Noe (Mahomet-Seymour)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
Noe is a plus shooter with toughness from central Illinois. Has some creativity to his offensive game.
Jonte Coleman (Champaign Central)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
Coleman broke out as a senior with his ability to knock down threes at a very high rate. Being a plus shooter from three is what he hangs his hat on.
Caleb Frederking (Okawville)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
Frederking is a prospect that doesn’t post eye popping numbers, but knows how to play the game and brings versatility on both ends.
A’Keion Gill (Champaign Central)
Level Projection: D3
Gill is another prospect that rose up the board throughout the season. Good sized two guard that can score in a variety of ways and brings defense to the table.
Ryan Saunders (Joliet Central)
Level Projection: D3
Travel Team: Hoops4Health
Plus athlete that had a strong senior campaign. Nice value at the small college level.
