Orr Wins 2A Championship
Orr was the heavy favorite to roll through the competition and win the 2A state championship. Beyond their close game in the sectional semi against Uplift they rolled the competition on the way to a state championship. Saturday night they capped it off with a 76-49 win over Winnebago to win the state championship.
We felt that all year long Orr was one of the best teams in the state of Illinois regardless of class and they proved that throughout the regular season, city playoffs, and state playoffs. They finished the deal repeating as 2A champs Saturday behind a big performance from their star wing Dannie Smith. The senior power wing had 22 points (6-17 FG) and 7 boards. Got to the line at a high rate going 9-10 from the charity stripe. The key transfer point guard Chase Adams played an excellent all-around game on the big stage recording 17 points (5-12 FG), 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Raekwon Drake had 8 points and 6 boards. All three of these prospects remain uncommitted. UW-Milwaukee commit Tyronn Mosley had 7 points and 9 boards in the win.
For Winnebago their star post Andrew Morrisey posted a solid game in the championship game recording a double double of 16 points and 12 boards. They finished the season as state runners up with a record of 30-3.
This Orr squad was one of the best 2A teams we have seen in the history of the state’s four class era. They have legit prospects, play tenacious defense, and played well as a team throughout the entire season. This team had the pieces that fit together led by Head Coach Lou Adams who captures another state title. Their final record was 30-4. Congrats to Orr on winning the 2A crown!
