Gamers at the Big House
My time at the Big House was limited this weekend. I was able to drive up late Thursday night and catch three boys games in the early session. Star Spencer started the session with a great defensive performance against a sharpshooting Mount Saint Mary squad. Heritage Hall followed with a blowout win over Roland that was never close. The final game of the session Kingston vs Hugo featured a great battle.
Trey Alexander 2021 Heritage Hall Wing
The young freshman Wing dazzled spectators with a monster jam for his first points in the Big House. It is still too early to say what the ceiling of Alexander is what I know is he is an NCAA Division I High Major talent with great potential. Alexander has a smooth offensive game. When he drives to the basket Alexander makes it easy gliding to the rim. He can finish above the rim with great hops. The smooth jumper of the long and lanky Alexander adds to his intrigue. This is just the beginning for Alexander.
Jacob Germany 2019 Kingston Post
Germany found himself in a big battle in the paint against Hugo. In Class 3A or in Oklahoma for that matter, it is not often you find a player that can battle with a 6’10 big. I think Germany was a little surprised at the toughness and defense of Houston Greggs. Germany got blocked a couple of times early in the game and then the light bulb clicked. Germany was locked in on both ends giving Greggs a battle blocking shots in the paint. The length of Germany makes him tough to handle in the paint. Toughness and strength are the biggest things Germany has to work on before he gets to the next level. Germany is a High Major NCAA Division I recruit because of his height and skill set. Friday was a tough day for Germany scoring wise. What he was best at on Friday was dominating the boards. Germany has some areas for growth in his game for sure, but there is also a lot to like in the 6’10 prospects game.
Houston Greggs 2019 Hugo Post
Greggs was the find of the day at Hugo. The physical build of Greggs is strong with broad shoulders at 6’6. He gave Kingston fits all day being physical against Germany making him work for every point and rebound he got. Early in the game, Greggs was hot scoring on the block. as the game progressed. He scored off of post moves catching the ball on the block and being crafty. Greggs is a prospect that has entered the radar in the 2019 Class and could end up being a good small college guy.
Stephon Hall 2018 Mount Saint Mary Point Guard
Hall ended his career on a high note doing everything he could to help his team come out on top. At the Point, Hall was a gamer battling through what was a tough game team wise. He scored a game-high 23 points using his quickness to create openings in the defense. Off the dribble, Hall was able to get past defenders with a quick first step. Hall will make the small college program he lands at a very happy with his ability to score and lead the team at the Point.
Brandon Zeno 2020 Star Spencer Post
Zeno is a load for teams to handle in the paint. In the matchup against Mount Saint Mary Zeno got off to a slow start, but found his groove in the second half. He ended with a team-high 14 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor. When Star Spencer got Zeno the ball on the block it was game over go ahead and expect a basket. Zeno is a multi-sport athlete that could find a home with a small college program if he ends up choosing basketball.
Latarryus Smith 2018 Star Spencer Point Guard
Smith had a productive day for the Bobcats. When you talk about gamers what comes to mind for me is a player that is ready to go to battle and lay it all on the line for his squad, Smith was exactly that on Friday. He scored 12 points on 50% shooting. Smith could make a good find for a small college. He is quick, which allows him to get to the rim easily and also come up with steals on the defensive end.
Jon Matthews 2018 Heritage Hall Point Guard
Matthews is going to be a guy I miss watching play after he graduates this year. He fits the gamer mold all the way through and through. Passion, intensity, and poise describe the way Matthews plays well. At the Point Matthews plays with a ton of swagger providing his team with leadership, scoring, passing, and defense. In the game on Friday alone Matthews totaled a game-high six steals. Matthews would be a great get for a small college program.
G’Quavious Lennox 2018 Hugo Guard
Lennox scored the ball from all three levels on Friday afternoon. He provided Hugo with scoring at the Guard spot giving them versatility. Hugo was not able to come out with the win, but Lennox made sure he left an impression. Small colleges looking for an athletic Combo Guard that can score may checkout Lennox.
