Palmetto State Recruiting News & Notes
The AAU season is right around the corner. Prep Hoops plans to be out plenty at several events this spring and summer. Lets take a look at some recruiting news and notes from the Palmetto State the past few weeks.
Aaron Nesmith has won the Gatorade South Carolina Player of the Year. Nesmith ranked #2 in the 2018 Palmetto State behind Zion Williamson will play at Vanderbilt next season. Nesmith capped off his career with his Porter Gaud Cyclones 3-Peating in the SCISA 3A ranks. The Cyclones finished the season at 25-2.
Nesmith 6’6 wing averaged 21 ppg, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists this season while finishing his career with 2,067 career points. Nesmith for his efforts also was named a 3-time SCISA 3A Player of the Year. Nesmith went over the 2,000 point mark during the SCISA Quarterfinals vs Ben Lippen this season.
Tez Collins has decided to attend USC-Salkehatchie for next season according to North Augusta Yellow Jackets Head Coach Tony Harrell. Collins a small forward averaged 12.1 ppg this season for the Yellow Jackets.
Tyrike Lewis according to his twitter page will play basketball next season at Morris College in Sumter, SC. Lewis helped the Hemingway Tigers win back-to-back Class 1A State Championships. Lewis averaged 8.7 ppg and 5.6 rebounds for the Tigers (20-6). The Tigers defeated Ridge Spring-Monetta last weekend to win the State Championship.
Jimmy Nichols has now won back-to-back- Mr Hoop Zone Awards this week at the 18th Annual ABC 15 Banquet held in Myrtle Beach. Nichols a left-handed forward helped his Conway Tigers to the 3rd Round of the playoffs before being defeated by Blythewood. Nichols will take his talents next season at Providence.
KeShawn Toney (2019) has committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks to play football. Toney looks to be done playing basketball for the Williston-Elko Blue Devils. Toney has 1,571 yards on 107 career catches while scoring 11 touchdowns.
