Legacy Early College finishes out season
The Legacy Early College Lions finished out the season this weekend at the USA National Prep Basketball Championships in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The Lions went (2-1) in the event and finished the season (27-9) under Head Coach BJ Jackson,
The Lions never seemed to be at full strength all season. The Lions played most of the season with 8 guys. The Lions lost some players in the fall semester when CJ Plantin, Donta King, Raymond Williams and Malik Wiles all left the team. Wiles still attends classes at Legacy Early College.
Dontrell Shuler (2018) didn’t play in the USA National Prep Basketball Championships after being injured for most of the season it seemed. Shuler didn’t make the trip to the beach this weekend.
Sharone Wright Jr. will take his talents to Wake Forest University next season in the ACC Conference. Wright is ranked #3 in the Palmetto State 2018 Class.
Maliek Wilcox played a lot of point guard and logged plenty of minutes this season. Wilcox came over from South Pointe HS. Wilcox really needs to work on his court vision in transition. Wilcox tends to create on the offensive end and gets teammates involved. Wilcox is a very coachable and tends to really compete while on the floor.
Sherman Robinson is a raw talent that will need to entertain junior college options according to Lions Assistant Coach Jeff Merritt. Robinson 6’6 can knockdown the 10-12 footer facing up. Robinson is originally from the Bahamas.
Kaleb Mack (2021) showed some good glimpses of the future for the Lions. Mack a true point guard would come off the bench for the Lions. Mack has a great basketball “IQ” and plays the passing lanes very well.
Chase Claxton (2019) is a wiry skinny forward that tends to work the baseline. Claxton who’s brother Nicolas plays at Georgia, is a quick leaper on the defensive end of the floor.
The Lions won the tourney opener over National Christian (MD) 61-41, lost to Our Savior New American (NY) 51-45 and defeated Ridley College (Canada) 31-24 on the final day.
