NCHSAA East Regional Championships Standouts: Guards
Eastern Guilford Senior PG Montez Venable: Without a doubt , he was the top performer on the court the entire day. Late in the first half, his teammate went down with an injury and he picked up his level of play to carry the squad. In the 2nd half he put on an absolute showing scoring the ball in all types of ways and would finish with: 39 points in 32 minutes on 12-18 FGA.
Northside HS Senior PG Kenny Dye: With his commitment to Queens University a few weeks back, he was the highest profile prospect on the court and he showed why throughout the game. He has played in a very high amount of games since he has been playing varsity basketball since his freshman year and that experience is paying off, he would finish with 23 points & 4 Assists on the day.
Northside HS Senior Guard Jason Robinson: He didn’t have his best day but you can see that he has some of the tools that are needed for a player that wants to play on the next level. His strength, defense and athletic ability are all attributes that you have to like.
Pamlico County HS Senior Guard Sincere Gibbs: The passion, energy and effort he plays the game with was infectious for the rest of his squad, he doesn’t take any plays off and plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. Pamlico likes to play the game at a very fast temp and he is one of the main reasons why its possible for them.
Rocky Mount Prep Junior Guard Sam Benton: He provided some nice minutes off the bench for his squad and played with some high level defensive intensity. You can measure what he brings to the table with his height as he only is 5’8 , but instead you have to look at his heart and his desire to win games.
Rocky Mount Prep Junior Guard Trevor Batchelor: There is a lot to like about his game and upside, he’s about 6 foot and has a very solid frame to go along with good ballhandling skills and a smooth shooting stroke. What I probably liked the most about his game was the toughness that he played with, he doesn’t back down from a challenge at all.
