Class 4A and 5A State Championships
This weekends games of the 4A and 5A State Championship were instant classics.
Class 4A : Ridge View 74 Wilson (Florence) 70
The Blazers start 5 juniors and expect everyone back next season to try and win another state championship. The Blazers trailed by as much as 10 points and led by as much as 11 points in the battle with the Tigers. The two teams combined on making 17 three pointers in the game.
Crosby Harris-James led the charge for the Blazers with 20 points and Walyn Napper added 17 points and 10 rebounds. JaVon Anderson contributed 16 points and Malcolm Wilson controlled the middle with 15 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Wilson blocked a 3 point attempt at the end of regulation. The game featured 9 lead changes.
Alex Caldwell a Southeast Missouri State signee and with his future Head Coach Rick Ray in attendance the scoring guard dropped 30 points. Juniors Allen Williamson and Maine Gibson both added 11 points while Darius Rhodes added 10 points. Senior post players Jamonty Williams and Ryan Carfley rounded up the scoring with 4 points a piece. Carfley is headed to Coker College (SC) (NCAA D2) next season.
Class 5A : Dorman 44 Irmo 33
The Cavaliers fight off a stingy Yellow Jackets team to win back to back 5A State Titles. The Cavaliers are the only team to ever win a Class 5A state championship since it was just added to the SCHSL a few years back. Super sophomore Myles Tate the #1 ranked player in the Palmetto State Class for 2020 led the way with 20 points. P.J. Hall (2020) another great piece to the puzzle at Dorman finished with 8 points.
The Yellow Jackets led 19-15 at halftime. Irmo looked to be in control under the leadership of Head coach Tim Whipple. Winston Hill a senior finished his career with 13 points. Trevez Caldwell (2019) and Dylan Williams (2022) both will be back next season ended the game with 6 points a piece. Williams a 8th grader sees a great deal of playing time for such a young age.
The high school basketball season has come to a end in the Palmetto State. Prep Hoops will be focusing on some All-Star Games later this month and a Unsigned Senior Showcase in Sumter, SC at Lakewood HS hosted by Bret Swanson – Swanny’s Roundball Review and PrepHoops.
