Surprises in Class A
Prep Hoops Oklahoma has scouted the Class A State Tournament this weekend. Several players in the final eight teams of Class A surprised with their skills on the court.
Dayken Rackley 2019 Cyril Forward
Rackley is a long lanky Forward that did a number of valuable things this weekend to open my eyes. He scored the ball well from the paint using his height to his advantage. There is not many in Class A who can match his size which helps him to be one of the top rebounders. Another area he shined at was on defensive blocking shots around the basket.Rackley is a guy that will enter our 2019 Oklahoma Prospect Rankings after this weekend. He projects to be a small college prospect.
Toche Taylor 2018 Rattan Wing
Sharpshooter is the best way to describe Taylor. He is arguably the best shooter in Class A with his efficacy and knack for big shots in key moments of the game. NAIA Divison II programs should give Taylor a look at the next level with his ability to score the ball so well he could help a college program.
Tyson Eastwood 2021 Fort Cobb-Broxton Point Guard
Welcome to the big stage, Mr. Eastwood. The biggest surprise of the weekend in Class A is the skill level of Eastwood. He plays well beyond his years for the Mustangs. Eastwood is super quick, which helps him to create on offense with the ball in his hands. He gets to the basket finishing strong in traffic. It is tough to guard him with his ability to score efficiently in all three phases of the game. The long ball from Eastwood has helped Fort Cobb keep opponents on their toes. Eastwood is a gamer that appears to cherish the clutch moments of the game. Often times when a freshman can score it really well they slack off on defense, but that is not the case with Eastwood you can tell he makes it a point to compete on the floor at all times.
Cale Lazenby 2019 Glencoe Wing
Another Lazenby? Cale Lazenby was terrific for Glencoe shooting the ball lights out from distance. For most of the game, Lazenby kept Glencoe within striking distance of Fort Cobb-Broxton due to his three-point shooting. He is a prospect small colleges should keep tabs on with his height at 6’2 and shooting skills.
Braiden Clark 2019 Glencoe Forward
Clark is a player that had a great showing at the state tournament. He needs to find an AAU program this summer to help get him more exposure. In the paint, Clark is listed at 6’4 but might be closer to 6’5. He stretched the floor with his jumper from mid and three-point range. Clark was one of the better rebounders with his size and toughness. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next year.
Will Haas 2020 Southwest Covenant Guard
Haas had a spectacular showing at the Class A State Tournament. In the final game of the opening day, Haas did everything he could to keep his team in the game. He is a crafty Point Guard that finds ways to score the basketball. Haas was most effective using a mid-range floater driving to the basket and creating openings to get off his three-point shot. What I loved about Haas is he has great basketball instincts. I will be keeping tabs to see how Haas progresses this summer. He could turn into one of the better Oklahoma 2020 small college prospects.
Nolan Childs 2018 Frontier Forward
Sniper alert. Childs is a 6’3 stretch four for Frontier that can shoot it as soon as he crosses halfcourt. Opponents struggled to slow him down this weekend because of his movement off the ball and beautiful jumper. Childs is a college player probably best fit for the JUCO level.
Dante Lightfoot 2019 Frontier Guard
Lightfoot was a solid dependable player for Frontier this weekend. They use him often at the Point to create with his steady dribble. It appears Lightfoot will be the go-to option next year for Frontier. He is best at creating off the dribble for his teammates. Lightfoot scored the rock by getting to the basket or shooting it from deep. The three-pointer of Lightfoot is good enough to make opponents respect his shooting skills. The most intriguing part about Lightfoot at Guard is his size at 6’3.
