Player of the Week: Trenton Massner (12)
TRENTON MASSNER (2018)
6’2 G, Wapello
What a season it’s been for this ultra-athletic Wapello senior. His elite athleticism is paired with a high degree of skill and that equates to some seriously impressive numbers.
Massner’s Indians will play in the state tournament next week, and at 23-1 have drawn the eight seed. They’ll face undefeated top-seed Treynor. And with Massner leading the charge — he’s averaging 22.9 points, 7.4 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game — the Indians have as good of a shot as any bottom seed we’ve seen to bring home a state title.
Last week, the Indians played only one game, but it was a big one; a 55-46 state berth-clinching win over Northeast, Goose Lake. Massner was his usual dominant self in the W, going for 25 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Actually, that’s a pretty common game for Massner, but his normal is anyone else’s exceptional.
There’s very few players that we’re more looking forward to seeing next week than Massner. We’ve heard he has a penchant for throwing down some nasty jams.
Regardless of what happens next week for Massner and his Indians, the senior guard will be due for a significant bump in the final installment of 2018 rankings. Those will be released shortly after the season is finished.
