Quarterfinals
Red Oak 58 Kinta 37
Grayson Nix led the way for the Eagles with a game-high 18 points as Red Oak downed Kinta. Kinta was led by junior forward Josh Lynch with 14 points. The disciplined Eagles got whatever they wanted against Kinta and advance to the Semi-Finals Friday against Leedey.
Leedey 66 Indiahoma 62
Christopher Goldston lit up the Warriors for 25 points including 5 3-pointers. The steady play of Goldston and teammate Colten Clinesmith (21 points) were enough to outlast a feisty Indiahoma squad. Leedey moves on to play Red Oak in the Semi-Finals on Friday.
Earlsboro 48 Whitesboro 46
Returning to the State Tournament for the first time in over 70 years, the Whitesboro Bulldogs looked to upset the #1 team in Class B, Earlsboro. The game was close and even went into overtime, but that is when Earlsboro 2018 Elijah Stargell took over. The guard had 28 points in the game and scored all 4 of his team’s points in overtime, including the game-winning layup as time expired. Earlsboro will play Calumet in the Semi-Finals on Friday.
Calumet 67 Duke 64
Calumet had no trouble defeating Duke on Thursday, or, that is what I would’ve typed had the Tigers not come back from down 15. The Tigers tied the game late and were able to force overtime. The extra frame was back and forth, but Calumet 2018 Riley Island was too much, as he was most of the game. Island had 6 points in overtime and a game-high 40 on the day. Calumet will play Earlsboro in the Semi-Finals on Friday.
Semifinals
Leedey 41 Red Oak 62
Red Oak had a scare early in the first quarter as standout 2018 Guard Grayson Nix fell to the ground with an ankle injury. Nix was not going to let his injury hold him out from this game. Throughout the remainder of the game, Nix toughed it out scoring a game-high 23 points. This one was decided by halftime as Red Oak easily advanced to the Class B Championship Game.
Calumet 59 Earlsboro 71
2018 Calumet Guard Riley Island scored a game-high 31 points, but it was not enough to top Earlsboro. It was an exciting face paced game from the tip. Elijah Stargell had a tremendous showing for Earlsboro scoring a very efficient 25 points on 9-13 from the floor. Earlsboro also got a huge outing from Trenton Nadeau. It seemed anytime they needed a big three-pointer Nadeau obliged. Earlsboro will take on Red Oak tomorrow at noon.
Championship Game: Red Oak vs Earlsboro
The Class B title tilt was one for the ages. Red Oak and Earlsboro battled a full game plus two overtimes to decide the Class B State Championship. Trailing by one in the final moments of the game Grayson Nix fought through a double team on the low block to hit the game-winning basket. Red Oak knocked off Earlsboro 47-46 in double overtime. This game featured everything you could imagine down the stretch. Nix and Jacob Armstrong were the keys to victory for Red Oak. Nix posted a game-high 26 points. Elijah Stargell paced Earlsboro with 17 points.
