Small School State Tourney Prospects To Watch
As the small school state tournaments begin today with quarterfinal action in Baker City, Pendleton, and Coos Bay, we take a look at some of the best uncommitted seniors playing. The guys on the list are worth a look for college programs around the northwest.
Class 3A Prospects:
Ian Holzman 6’2 Guard Oregon Episcopal
Holzman has great length and the ability to get it going from deep (nine 3’s in a game last season), has improved his play off the bounce this season. Still needs to develop physical and prove that he can defend higher level players. High academic student that should be on D3 radars.
Colby Bullard 5’11 Guard Oregon Episcopal
Much improved player since last season. Can score off the dribble or shoot it to range. Lacks the size and athleticism to play wing at the next level, so must continue to develop point guard skills and decision making. Another high academic student that should be on D3 & jc radars.
Tanner Lewis 6’3 Wing Dayton
Athletic wing that has garnered NAIA & jc interest locally, is worth a look at that level. Player of the year in a very competitive league, winner, who makes plays needed to impact games.
Emmanuel Reilly 6’4 Forward Delasalle
Super athletic small school post player. Runs the floor hard and is active in protecting the rim. Raw offensive game, face up player who attacks hard off the dribble. Must continue to improve ball handling and perimeter shooting as he likely translates to a bigger wing at the college level. Will be an impact player at the jc level and should be on the radar of NAIA teams that can afford to let him develop perimeter skills for a year or two.
Mike Beshaw 6’4 Wing Blanchet
Long athletic wing that can shoot the ball to 3 point range. Must improve strength and play on the defensive end of the floor. Definitely a guy that D3 programs should take a look at.
Steven Copple 6’6 Post Blanchet
Long fairly athletic post with decent skill level offensively. A guy that post starved D3 & jc programs should take a look at. Has the body and game to suggest that best basketball is in his future.
Class 2A Prospects:
Clay Sullivan 6’4 Wing Vernonia
Athletic lefty that can score off the bounce and shoot to range. Must continue to improve ball handling and defensively to reach his ceiling. Player with an accomplished resume who knows how to win. A guy that NAIA and jc programs should take a look at.
Colton Weirup 5’10 Guard Knappa
Undersized guard who is effective in transition and can really get it going from deep. A guy that local jc programs should look at as someone who can score in bunches and play at a very fast tempo.
Class 1A Prospects:
John Keeler 6’8 Post Pacific
Intriguing prospect, has gained weight & strength in last year. Very skilled big man, who has never played on the AAU circuit. Can shoot to range, good vision and passing skills for big man. Also has good knack to defending rim. Most continue to improve physical strength and prove that he can play effectively against bigger players. A player that over time should be on radar of programs at the D2 level and below.
Jake Justesen 5’11 Guard Sherman County
Tough physical competitor, played with injured knee in 2017 season. Tremendous floor vision and passer. Must improve perimeter shot and show the ability to effectively guard quicker point guards. Good student, should be a guy that D3 and jc programs are following.
Dorran Wilson 5’8 Guard Prairie City
Undersized, but quick and athletic, has ability to get to the paint and create plays for self and teammates. Needs to prove that he can play effectively against better guards on both ends of the floor. A kid that could be a steal for a local jc program.
