Tuesday night was the first full night of hoops across the state with regional semis in 3A and 4A. PrepHoopsIllinois takes a look across the state at some of the top games and performances. Here is Around the State for the games on Tuesday!
3A
The 3A favorites Morgan Park kicked things off with a 90-58 win over Evergreen. Cam Burrell had 44 points and 23 boards. Unsigned senior needs to get more attention at the low-major level! Illini commit Ayo Dosunmu had 16 points and 15 dimes.
Hillcrest is a team that many have picked to make it all the way to Peoria. Their first game was much closer than expected. They defeated Rich South 65-63. Robert Harvey had 21 points. One of the better unsigned wings in the state. Jalen Hughes had 20 points.
Carbondale knocks off Massac County 54-47. SIU commit Darius Beane had 18 points in the win.
Lanphier gets a blowout 61-34 win over Jerseyville. They were led by Cardell McGee with 17 points.
East St. Louis got a major test from Breese Central in their first playoff game. The Flyers only won by a final of 67-65. State’s #3 junior Terrence Hargrove had 21 points and 9 boards.
Johnsburg defeated Marian Central 63-58. The baby faced assassin Zach Toussaint had 30 points and 4 dimes.
Marion defeated Benton 77-53 at the Carbondale regional. Justin Saddoris had 32 points.
Springfield Southeast defeated Eisenhower 78-50. Kobe Medley had 25 points. Top 10 2019 Anthony Fairlee had 21 points.
Mahomet-Seymour rolls over Rantoul 64-50 behind 32 points from unsigned senior Corey Noe.
DePaul Prep starts off their road to Peoria with a 59-39 win with junior star Perry Cowan going for 22 points.
Carmel defeats Vernon Hills 60-42. Sharp shooter Evan Myers had 18 points in the win. Johnny Roeser went for 10 points.
4A
Lincoln Way East advances to the regional final with a 69-58 win over Joliet West. SIU commit Sam Shafer continues to post big numbers with 20 points and 13 boards.
The favorites in 4A Simeon Wolverines got their road to state kicked off on Tuesday with a 79-41 win. Junior Kejuan Clements had 20 points. Iowa State commit Talen Horton-Tucker went for 16 points and 10 boards.
Fenwick rolled against Proviso West recording a 75-58 win. They were led by junior Damari Nixon with 20 points. Billy Bruce had 16 points. The state’s #2 sophomore DJ Steward had 12 points and 8 dimes.
Niles Notre Dame got a big win 61-56 over Maine West. Freshman point guard Anthony Sayles had a huge outing with 30 points. One of the state’s top unsigned post Dusan Mahorcic had 12 points and 10 boards.
Niles North opens up their playoffs with a blowout win over Senn 94-51. Jamal Stephenson led the way with 18 points. Damaria Franklin had 18 points.
Bolingbrook began their playoff run with a 78-66 win over Plainfield Central. Kaleb Thornton had 16 points. Junior running mates Tyler Cochran and Joseph Yesufu had 15 and 10 points each.
Normal West advances with a 51-38 victory over United Township. The state’s #1 junior Francis Okoro finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Homewood Flossmoor won their regional semi 64-46 over TF South. Isaac Stanback had 21 points while RJ Ogom went for 17 points.
St. Rita blew out Brooks 68-37 behind a big night from unsigned senior Jordan Matthews who had 21 points.
Brother Rice put on a show in a 63-30 win against Bradley Bourbonnais. Junior Marquise Kennedy had 20 points.
Oak Park River Forest defeated up and coming Prosser 91-44. Isaiah Fuller scored 20 points. One of the better uncommitted scoring combo guards. Freshman Norvell Meadows had 12 points
Marist defeats Richards at home 75-65. Morgan Taylor continues his strong senior season with 23 points.
Conant defeats Lake Forest 50-31. Vermont commit Ryan Davis had 25 points. Ben Schols added 17 points.
Belleville West rolls over Belleville East 69-52. Stud junior EJ Liddell drops 27 points in the victory.
Quincy defeated Collinsville on their home floor 51-37. Unsigned senior guard Aaron Shoot had 24 points.
Larkin’s opener against Elgin was a little closer than expected. They won 50-43 behind 23 points from Anthony Lynch.
