Recruiting Report: Christian Zamora (2019)
The next six months will be big for Lynden’s 6-foot-5 shooting guard Christian Zamora, and he could see his recruitment start to spike soon.
Currently Washington’s 35th-ranked 2019, Zamora says he tries to keep a distance from all the recruiting chatter. But says that it’s definitely still on his mind.
“I kind of let my (grassroots) coach, Anthony Slater, talk to colleges about me. I don’t try and be too involved with it, because I feel like it takes away the focus on that I want to improve no matter what colleges want me or don’t want me,” said Zamora.
“But college is definitely on my mind. That’s the goal, is to go play college for four years.”
During the past year, Zamora says he’s been working to improve defensively, and it’s paying off.
“I’ve been working really hard on staying focused on each possession of defense, not taking it off and having that mind-set that defense creates offense,” said Zamora. “So, I feel pretty good about that.”
This Thursday, Zamora and his Lions will play in a state quarterfinal match at the SunDome.
“We’re looking good, we’re looking real sharp,” said Zamora, who explained his role with the team this season.
“It is a lot different for me this year, I have to be more of a vocal leader, and just all-around leader for the team. I’ve got to push guys in practice and make sure things run smoothly. And just try and be a leader on and off the court.”
As soon as the season is over, Zamora will head right into his 17U offseason with Washington Elite. It’ll be a big summer for recruitment.
“I’m pretty excited for the season ahead of us,” said Zamora.
“I hope to eventually go D2 or D1, somewhere maybe in California or local. I’m just looking for somewhere that will fit me, and fit my game right.”
