Five Takeaways: WCAC Quarterfinals
WASHINGTON, DC — Gallaudet University played host to the WCAC Quarterfinals, where Gonzaga, Paul VI, DeMatha, and Bishop O’Connell each picked up wins. Xavier, NJIT, St. Mary’s (MD), and Catholic U were among the schools spotted. Here we recap the day with five takeaways. All stats referenced were provided courtesy of Legit Stats.
UNSUNG SENIOR AIDS GONZAGA’S FIRST TEAMERS
After trailing at the half, Gonzaga came back to defeat St. John’s by a final score of 60-49. Penn State commit Myles Dread, who hit 3 of 4 from downtown, led the charge with 21 points and 7 rebounds. 2020 Terrance Williams, who was named first team All-WCAC, added 13 points and 7 rebounds. We’d like to mention Allin Blunt as well. The unsigned 6’6 senior, who was clutch down the stretch, recorded 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist on 3 of 5 from the field (4/4 from the line). Blunt is one of the best available seniors in the area, and simply knows how to play the game.
PVI OUTLASTS MCNAMARA BEHIND BALANCED ATTACK
Bishop McNamara played a very good first half behind a standout performance from 2018 Ibn Williams. Paul VI, however, recovered to win the game by a final of 72-47. 2020 Jeremy Roach was absolutely superb in this game, and flirted with a triple double, recording 16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. 2019 Anthony Harris, who added 14 points, was very aggressive on both ends of the floor. Stony Brook commit Miles Latimer, and 2019 Josh Oduro combined for 20 points and 6 rebounds on 9/10 shooting from the field.
HINES SHINES FOR IRETON, BUT STAGS ARE TOO MUCH
2018 Darius Hines, who scored more points (24) than any other player today, was the standout for the Cardinals. The unsigned senior, who had a 3/1 assist:to ratio, also swiped 3 steals. 2020 Hunter Dickinson was dominant in the first quarter, but missed the rest of the game due to what looked like a knee injury. 2019’s Justin Moore, Jahmir Young, and 2020 Earl Timberlake picked up the slack, combining for 40 of DeMatha’s 72 points in their 14-point win.
WCAC POY & OTHERS PROPEL O’CONNELL
Bishop O’Connell saw four players hit double figures in their 61-47 win over Carroll. 2021 Aminu Mohammed, who scored 19 points, had some nice moments for the Lions. 2018 Xavier Johnson led the Knights in scoring with 17 points, while 2019 Ayan Teel added 13 points and 9 assists. 2019 Charlie Weber, who added 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, played an efficient game. Mount St. Mary’s commit Matt Becht chipped in with 10 points on 2/5 shooting from downtown.

- Xavier offered 2019 Anthony Harris after Head Coach Chris Mack saw him play vs. McNamara.
- 2021 Malcolm Dread is developing a bigger role down the stretch for Gonzaga. He’s starting to make a consistent impact, especially on defense.
