NCHSAA State Playoffs: Westover vs Southern Lee
This game was a tale of two halfs, Westover took control of the game in the first half and would take a ten point lead into halftime. The second half belonged to Southern Lee as they found their rhythm and took over the game in the 3rd quarter to never look back for the win.
Westover Junior Guard Thomas Hendricks: In the first half he played at a very high level and caught fire from deep, knocking down 4 treys and getting after it on defense. He was key in getting Westover into their offense and did a good job of keeping his turnovers as low as possible.
Southern Lee Junior Guard Phillip Martin: You can tell that he is a very good offensive player just by the way he was defended in the first half. In the second half he found ways to impact the game and showed his stellar shooting ability.
Westover Senior Forward Jalin Thorne: He was the best true big man on the floor and displayed a nice skillset overall offensively. On defense he picked up a few fouls but he does a good job of staying straight up to contest shots and not reaching.
Southern Lee Forward Octavius Flack: Whenever you see a youngster that is undersized in the post that plays at a high level, you have to be impressed. His energy and efficiency was key for his squad as they put together an impressive 2nd half, finished with 13 points.
Westover Junior Guard Tyron George: Offensively he didn’t have his best showing but on defense he made a high impact coming up with a nice amount steals and deflections.
Southern Lee Wing Kajoen Swinnie: One of the leading scorers on his squad, he found holes in the defense and got to the spots he wanted. He can shoot the deep ball, had some decent athletic ability and showed upper body strength when playing through contact.
Westover Senior Guard Camari Williams: There won’t be a ton of things that he does to impress you but he is an efficient player that you like to have on your team. He can shoot the deep ball fairly well and gets into the gaps of the defense to make plays for himself and others.
