Class 3A Playoff Breakdown
The Class 3A playoffs are underway in second round play today. Prep Hoops breaks down this weekend with the team to beat, best contenders for the Gold ball and more!
Who is the team to beat?
Kingston is what you will hear from most and I would tend to agree. However, it should be noted Kingston was 0-2 against top ten teams this season. They have not played a very good schedule outside of the TOC, which leaves questions to be answered. The biggest reason Kingston is your team to beat in Class 3A is Jacob Germany a dominating big man. He has help around him with shooters everywhere. When Kingston is hitting shots they are almost unbeatable in Class 3A.
Best Contenders
The best contenders in Class 3A are Mount Saint Mary, Star Spencer, Millwood, Hennessey, Tahlequah Sequoyah and Hugo. Out of that group any of them could challenge Kingston and win the Gold ball. My favorite out of this group is Mount Saint Mary because of their dynamic duo of Stephon Hall and Cedric Rollerson. I think Mount Saint Mary will give opponents trouble in the playoffs due to their guards having been through the fire and knowing what to expect. The biggest thing that has to happen for Mount Saint Mary to win it all is they must shoot the ball well.
Players to Watch
The players to watch in Class 3A start with the top-ranked player in the 2019 Class, Jacob Germany. Hall and Rollerson at Mount Saint Mary are two exciting guards to watch. Devion Nelson at Okmulgee has had a terrific year at the two guard spot. Star Spencer has a host of guards led by Latarryus Smith. The best shooter in the Class is Jace Pratt at Sperry. Hennessey has one of the best big guys in Dalton Vinson. Millwood is led by talented athletic 6’1 senior Deontre Price. This class will be fun to watch with a lot of talented players.
Darkhorse Teams
The two teams I think are the best options to be darkhorse squads that could bust the bracket is Okmulgee and Sperry. Okmulgee has had a very up and down year. They have the players to make a deep run to the state tournament it will come down to if they are playing their best or not. Sperry, I like because of their sharp shooting from the outside. If they get hot from deep lookout they will pull off an upset or two.
