2018 IMG G Mark Bowditch talks senior season, recruitment and more
Mark Bowditch arrived at IMG earlier this fall.
The 2018 guard said he chose to move down from Milton, Wis. to Bradenton, Fla. because of his deep passion for the game of basketball.
“During my last year at IMG, I have been truly blessed with all the people I have had the opportunity to work alongside,” Bowditch said. “The players, coaches, teachers, trainers and all the other staff members who have provided me with a wealth of information that I will forever value and apply to all areas of my life.
The 6’1”, 170-pounder says he feels very fortunate to have been offered a spot to play on the national varsity team back in September.
“These guys have been true teammates and have totally elevated my overall performance both on and off the court,” he said. “Many of my teammates will be going on to play at Division schools and they have been nothing but encouraging to me and helping me be the best player I can be. Playing at this level has taught me a lot about myself.
“My biggest area of growth this year has been my off ball play and my skills with the ball, being able to create more for my self and get better shots. The biggest area that I still need to focus on is my on-ball defense and my handles. I am most proud of the fact that my coach claims that I have an amazing attitude, gives maximum effort and extremely coachable each and every day. I know my mom and dad would be most proud of that statement.”
No offers have come yet for Bowditch, but he’s drawn heavy interest from Hope, Aurora, Edgewood, Clark Clarke, Keuka and a couple other Division III programs in New York.
He says he is just starting to hone in on his post high school basketball opportunities.
“However, I am still open and hoping to find that perfect fit for my future academic and athletic career,” Bowditch said. “I am thankful for the colleges who have reached out and am looking forward to visiting a few of them in the near future when we return back to campus after our European basketball experience.”
Over the last three summers, Bowditch played for Wisconsin Hoops Select under coach Carter James. He says those three years were a true building block for his full understanding of the game of basketball.
A silky smooth outside shooter, Bowditch has a craft that he’s built for this athletic IMG group. He knows his role off the bench for the Ascenders, but in college, he’ll be a key cog wherever he lands. Bowditch has a good sense of running an offense and he is a superb ballhandler.
