The Unranked- Six Players to Watch
This is by no means a comprehensive list but here are six players to watch as postseason basketball starts to ramp up in Kansas.
These are players that are not currently a part of the Prep Hoops Kansas rankings but have seen their stock rise this year and are all having an impact for their respective school.
Shawn Warrior (2020): Wichita Southeast– Shawn Warrior has continued to impress as the season wears on, playing a bigger role when Israel Barnes went down with an injury.
He is averaging 12.6 PPG on the season and recently had a very impressive outing against Wichita North. Ending with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in only three quarters of play. Look for his production to continue to increase with the departure of Barnes.
Kael Kordonowy (2019): Maize South– Kael is averaging a double-double for Maize South this season and is a valuable presence for the Mavericks in the paint on the defensive side of the ball.
The 6’6” post player is comfortable with the physicality of being on the low block and is strong and long enough to consistently make an impact down there.
Trey Duffey (2019): Topeka Seaman– Trey has been the sparkplug to the Topeka Seaman team and he will have to play well if they want to make a postseason run.
Trey has a huge upside once he consistently puts together his big performances. He had a great week against Emporia (31 points) and Topeka High (21 points). Trey is setting himself up for a huge senior year.
John Dunn Jr (2018): Sunrise Christian Academy (Silver)– The Sunrise Christian Silver (local) team is led by John Dunn Jr who uses his quickness to impact both sides of the ball in the KCAA.
Defensively, John averages about 3 steals per game and uses his quickness and shooting ability to consistently have big offensive games. John averages 22.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 4.6 APG.
John is a small school prospect who has the ability to step in right away and make an impact.
Devin Walker (2019): Ulysses High School– This 6’8” center had 18 points in a loss to Scott City on February 10th and is proving to be a continual asset for Ulysses despite a tough season.
The more comfortable Devin becomes in the low post, the higher his stock will rise. He is not skilled enough yet to stretch the defense out and be a force on the perimeter.
Andrew Gagnon (2019): Andover High School– Andrew is averaging a team high 15.9 PPG for Andover High and is the upperclassman that makes that team go.
Andrew is having a successful junior year and although he stands under six foot, he has a lot of success getting in the paint and finishing. It will be interesting to see how Andrew fares this summer against a variety of talent during AAU season.
