Recruiting Report: Christian Harvey (2018)
One of the top scorers in the state is a guy not many have heard of. Richmond’s 6′ lead guard, Christian Harvey, has been throwing down high scoring outputs this entire year and colleges are starting to take notice. Harvey is averaging 25.1 points a game and is shooting nearly 60 percent inside the arc. Harvey is scoring at a crazy pace and has a 40-point outburst to his name this year.
All of this scoring this year has really intrigued college coaches around the state especially since he can shoot the ball at a high clip. He holds offers from Dodge City CC (KS), Indiana Tech, and Marian. These schools have expressed the most interest in Harvey and he would fit in quite well. Harvey hasn’t taken any visits quite yet.
Harvey worked on his game a lot over the summer becoming a better finisher at the rim and becoming a more well-rounded player. He has shot the ball at a very high clip inside the three-point line the last two years but yet is still working on his shot in the lane.
“I think I have improved a lot on my body control and finishing with many more and-1s than last year,” Harvey said. “My midrange and free throw percentage definitely sky rocketed from last year.”
The coaches that have contacted Harvey have all said the same things they like and it all revolves around his scoring ability. Harvey is a guy who you can feel confident with if he has the ball in his hands at the end of the game. Besides his scoring ability, Harvey has some other qualities coaches love about him and his game.
“They all say that the like how I can go and get a bucket whenever I need to,” Harvey said. “They love my off-ball defense and on ball. They also say how they love my drive and dishing game and how athletic I am.”
Even though he is beginning to see potential suitors come through, Harvey never stops working on his game. He is trying to become a better teammate and help find ways to create more victories. Harvey is a true team player and that is showing this year.
“I’m continuing to still work on my free throws,” Harvey said. “My three ball is decent this year, and I’m still working on building leadership for my teammates.”
Harvey would fit at any non-D1 school in the state that is looking for a guard to go out and get buckets. He is strong and athletic and he will make the right plays in the lane. He can make defenders miss and has a nice hesitation move that gets them off balance. Harvey is also a solid defender and has active hands that swarm the offensive ball handler. A really good athlete as well that can create for himself. A big postseason may call for a few more offers for Harvey.
