10 Questions: 3A Illinois State Tournament
The Illinois 3A State Tournament is about ready to kick things off! At PrepHoopsIllinois we look at 10 Questions breaking down the field from all angles!
Will Morgan Park Repeat?
Yes Morgan Park will repeat! They have had a bit of an up and down season that has been hindered with injuries to Tamell Pearson all season and Ayo Dosunmu for over a month. Ayo is back and ready to finish the deal again. Last year he was hurt in the semifinals and watched his team win state from the bench. This year we believe he will be the reason they go all the way leading the Mustangs to another 3A crown!
Best Potential Regional Final?
Springfield Southeast vs Decatur MacArthur. Southeast comes into the 3A tournament on a roll and as one of the favorites to win the whole thing. They better be careful in the regional semi however! Decatur MacArthur has Amir and Armon Brummett who can go off on anyone and have a huge game. This game is also at MacArthur. Upset alert!
Best Potential Sectional Semi Final?
Lanphier vs Champaign Central. These might be the two best teams in central Illinois this season in 3A and they have to meet very early in the tournament. We think the winner of this game will make it all the way to the championship game. Lanphier pressures full court and has so many quality guards to throw at you led by Cardell McGee and PJ Edwards. Champaign Central is deep with senior talent led by Tim Finke. His running mates A’Keion Gill and Jonte Coleman along with freshman Khailieo Terry are a fun team to watch.
Best Potential Sectional Final?
Morgan Park vs Bogan. These two public league powers could meet in an epic up and down battle in the sectional final. Bogan is one of the few teams in this field that can match up athletically with Morgan Park. They have Rashaun Agee playing the best ball of his career inside. He could be the x-factor in a potential upset. We think Morgan Park will get by however. Too much talent!
Best Potential Super Sectional?
Morgan Park vs North Lawndale. It won’t be easy if the Mustangs want to get back to state. They will probably have to go through either North Lawndale or Farragut in the Joliet Central Super. Either one will give them a test before getting to Peoria.
Best Sectional Group?
This one is pretty easy. It is the Decatur Eisenhower Sectional. Whoever comes out of this sectional between Champaign Central, Lanphier, and Springfield Southeast is our pick to face Morgan Park in the championship game. Lincoln and Decatur MacArthur are teams that could pull off potential upsets in the regional.
Best Team That Got Horrible Draw?
Champaign Central. Wow talk about a difficult draw to make it to the championship game! Champaign Central has the talent to win this championship and if they do they will completely deserve it. They could have to face Effingham with top 30 junior Landon Wolfe who can carry a team in the regional final. The sectional semis they would face Lanphier who is a top 5 team in the state in 3A and then get Springfield Southeast who has been the top ranked team in this class for part of the year. East St. Louis with #3 2019 Terrence Hargrove or maybe Centralia who is a tough team to prep for wait in the super. Then at state go through DePaul Prep and Morgan Park. Good thing they played a tough schedule because this is a tough road!
Who Could Be the MVP of 3A Tournament?
Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park), Adam Miller (Morgan Park), Cardell McGee (Lanphier), Anthony Fairlee (Springfield Southeast), Tim Finke (Champaign Central), Malik Tidwell (Marian Catholic), Terrence Hargrove (East St. Louis) and Perry Cowan (DePaul Prep).
Best Young Prospects in 3A Tournament That Could Make Impact?
Adam Miller (Morgan Park), Marcus Watson (Morgan Park), Khailieo Terry (Champaign Central), PJ Edwards (Springfield Lanphier), Ahron Ulis (Marian Catholic), Lance Mosley (DePaul Prep), Isaiah Rivera (Geneseo), Reggie Strong (Farragut), Joel Watts (St. Rita), Alec Millender (St. Rita), Pee Wee Brown (Manual), Kimahri Wilson (Carmel).
Top 100 Ranked Unsigned Seniors to Watch in 3A?
Cam Burrell (Morgan Park), Jordan Matthews (St. Rita), Robert Harvey (Hillcrest), Jacob Hall (Alton Marquette), A’Keion Gill (Champaign Central), Jonte Coleman (Champaign Central), Kenny Strawbridge (Rockford Lutheran).
