There are many point guards in Northern California that are making a name for themselves this season. With Nor-Cal point guards such as Seniors James Akinjo and Elijah Hardy, and Junior guards Miles Amos and Jovon & Jaden McClanahan, Northern California has shown that they know how to breed good point guards. From former NBA point guards like Jason Kidd and Gary Payton, all the way down to current NBA all-star point guard Damian Lillard, Nor-Cal has good point guards. Here are five under the radar sophomore point guards that people may want to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.
Brahjon Thompson – James Logan HS 5’10’
Thompson is a crafty left-handed point guard that plays with a chip on his shoulder. He will compete against anyone no matter tha age or size, and it shows in his play. He gets to the basket real well, and he plays solid on-ball defense.
Daniel Fagan – De Anza HS 5’10’
Fagan plays the game at an excellent pace. He has a high basketball IQ, and has a great jumpshot. Fagan would be ideal for any college program because of his court awareness, his excellent decision making, and his ability to shoot. He is a highly skilled basketball player.
Rafiq Griffin – Lincoln HS 5’9′
Griffin is a very athletic guard who can defend and get to the rim. He is still working on his outside shot but as that improves he will become harder to defend. He has potential to have a Nate Robinson type built at point guard.
Rashjon Martinez – Vanden HS 6’1′
Martinez plays hard aggressive defense on opposing guards and doesn’t force anything on the offensive end. He has worked hard on his outside shot, and he has been the X-Factor during Vanden’s 10-0 run due to his role play.
Jalen Scott – St. Patrick-St Vincent HS 6’1′
Scott started as a freshmen last year during St. Pat’s division 4 state championship run. However, injuries kept him off the court during AAU season last summer. Scott is another young point guard that plays the game like a developed senior due to his basketball IQ. He can shoot from the outside, finish and pass with both hands, and is highly skilled. This will be a big summer for Scott.
