Iowa’s Player of the Week Poll (11)
Tommy Donovan (2018)
6’2 G, Carlisle
This future Black Hills State guard has been scorching to end the season. He was featured in our “Premier Performers” list last week after posting a triple-double, and makes the POTW list a week later after piecing together two more triple-doubles. Donovan averaged 14.4 points, 13.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists in two Carlisle wins last week. He has triple-doubles in three of his his last five games. Amazing.
Jackson Foley (2018)
5’6 PG, Cedar Rapids Kennedy
This extremely skilled Cougars point guard was the best assist-man in 4A last week, and came away with not one, but two double-digit assist games. During a regular season-finale win over Iowa City High, he double-doubled, dishing out 11 assists and scoring 11 points, too. Earlier in the week against Waterloo East he had 10 helpers. With his savvy and vision, it’s no wonder he’s become one of the state’s best assist guys.
Luke Appel (2018)
6’7 F, Marshalltown
What a week for the Bobcats senior. His Marshalltown squad only played one game, but that one performance from Appel was good enough to qualify him for this list. Last Friday night, Appel hit a game-winner and his Bobcats beat No. 3 Des Moines North. Marshalltown was just 6-13 coming into the game. Appel was sensational in the win, going for 26 points on 12-16 shooting, 13 rebounds and two blocks. They’ll be talking about that one in Marshalltown for years to come.
Noah Carter (2019)
6’5 F, Dubuque, Senior
The Dubuque, Senior Rams are flying high right now, and the state’s top-ranked 4A squad has looked virtually unstoppable since the return of junior combo-forward Noah Carter. He returned from leg surgery in late-January, and the Rams have not lost since. Last week, in two more Rams wins, Carter averaged 20.5 points on 60 percent shooting, and 6.5 rebounds. He was getting it one on defense, too; and averaged 1.5 blocks and steals in the the Ws.
Trey Sampson (2018)
6’7 PF, Davenport West
The Davenport West Falcons have been doing their thing in Eastern Iowa this season, and smooth big-man Trey Sampson has been putting together one of the better seasons in the state for his position. Last week, the Falcons (15-6) closed their regular season with two more wins. Sampson was a beast in both, and averaged 13.5 points and 14 rebounds. What’s best, is he nabbed 14 offensive rebounds in the two wins.
