Conference Championship Games Tonight to Watch!!
Trask vs East Carteret: Behind star Sophomore guard Jajuan Carr, Trask has been tremendous this season. They come into tonight’s matchup with East Carteret with a record of 24-2, and defeated the Mariners by 9 the last time these squads met up. East Carteret will look to get their first win over this squad and will need a nice showing from Senior Guard Maceo Donald if they wish to pull off the upset.
EE Smith vs Terry Sanford: Terry Sanford shared the regular season conference championship with Overhills HS so it’s no surprise that they are in the championship game. On the other hand, EE Smith has been the upset team of the tournament , knocking off Westover in the first round and Overhills in the Semi-Finals to advance. Terry Sanford will need a stellar game from Senior wings Gabe Harbison and Holt Walker while EE Smith will put the ball in the hands of Senior Guard Isaac Bonds.
Hoke County vs Scotland County: Hoke has been the best public school squad in the region all year long and will look to continue its winning streak tonight as they are the heavy favorites. The Bucks are led by Senior Point Guard Dakari Johnson who is still unsigned despite some tremendous performances. Hopefully a deep run in the playoffs or a state championship may possibly help Johnson’s recruitment with another boost.
White Oak vs Northside: No disrespect to the White Oak squad but the Monarchs are heavily favored to get the win tonight by a large margin. Northside has been dominant in their previous matchups with White Oak, winning one game by game 30 and the next by 11. The key for White Oak will be to slow down the tempo and keep their turnovers low as the Monarchs are a team that flourish by forcing TO’s and getting into transition.
West Columbus vs Fairmont: In the two matchups this season, West Columbus won the first game by eleven in double overtime, while the second meeting went to Fairmont HS in blowout fashion. The difference in these matchups ? West Columbus Forward Jake Brownlee, Fairmont found a way to slow him down in the second matchup so he will need to find ways to impact the game tonight regardless of the defensive scheme he faces.
