#4 Martin Luther King 12-11
#1 East Nashville 28-0
Tonight Head Coach Jim Fey and his merry band of senior friends put their Eagles against MLK Head Coach Caden Anderson and his Royals.
Gene Holmes (PrepHoopsTN #63) and Jayden Lockett (PrepHoopsTN #108) have lead the Eagles all season. Lockett is a finalist for AA Mr. Basketball.
Don’t overlook the rebounding prowess of Justin Williams or soft shooting touch of Monte Catlett. More important than any one tangible skill to the East Nashville success story is the wonderful cohesion of the many Class of 2018 players. The seniors, predictably, guide the team on the court.
Since East Nashville knocked off Whites Creek in the District 10 AA Championship last February, the Eagles continued to soar.
Stratford seniors KeVonte Boyd (PrepHoopsTN #91), Ja’Hari Reed (PrepHoopsTN #102), Keontai Windrow (PrepHoopsTN #111) are generally bankable assets.
Just like they did last February, Whites Creek’s Cobras are playing their best basketball of the year. Head Coach Carlton Battle’s young men won six of their last seven games. That stretch included victories over every single district team except East Nashville. The Eagles clipped the Cobras 70-66 back on Tuesday February 6th.
Dennis Stallings can really explode past elite defenders. Can Carpenter keep him in check? Will Stratford trust their man-to-man defense? Mike Wallace must be on the floor for Stratford to play their best defense, but a slippery penetrator can quickly rack up fouls on Wallace.
All four teams will advance to the Region 5AA Tournament. Only one will coast in with two straight wins at their backs. The District 10 AA Championship will take place Tuesday night after a Consolation Game Monday evening. All games will be played at East Nashville Magnet School.
