Prospect Spotlight: Jimtaz Curry (2019)
Fresh off football season, Jimtaz Curry came into his junior basketball campaign in really good shape.
The 2019 Bradford guard plays defensive end and wide receiver for the Tornadoes football. He says playing football helps his basketball game in terms of his toughness, strength, conditioning and scoring ability.
The 6’2″, 215-pounder has no offers or interest yet, but he’s been a steady presence for Bradford as a junior. Curry is averaging 11.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG, both second-best on the team.
Bradford plays hosts Newberry in Friday night’s Class 5A-District 4 Final.
Curry says he learned this season that nothing is given to you, it must be earned.
“I was mainly proud of me becoming a better teammate to other and increasing my skills throughout the season. My expectations for this next season is to get better as a team and go all the way,” Curry said. “I have grown the most with my attitude and toughness this season.”
This summer, he played with both Thunderstruck and Duval Jazz. He’s been with Thunderstruck for five years and spent his first year with the Jazz last year.
Curry said his ability to get to the basket is his biggest strength. He wants to continue to improve his outside shot.
Working hard in the classroom, Curry owns a 3.3 GPA currently and his last SAT score was 1160.
Whether his first offer or interest comes from football or basketball, one thing is for sure, Curry is a pure athlete. He fits the mold for Bradford’s offense and right now, he’s helping senior guard Chris Cummings run the show. We’ll see how far the Tornadoes can go in Class 5A.
