Prospect Spotlight: Jaydyn Dalton (2021)
Spring Valley 5-foot-10 point guard Jaydyn Dalton got an opportunity not many players get: to start varsity as a freshman.
Dalton says he averaged seven points and five assists this past season for the Grizzlies, and it’s his ability to facilitate that separates him from his peers, among other things.
“I think I change the game with the way I score. I can score at all three levels. I can get my teammates involved and I play defense,” said Dalton.
“I’m best at scoring, dribbling and being a leader. I’m looking to improve my communication on defense.”
His freshman season recently ended, but the young floor general certainly put himself on the map as the team’s starting point guard.
“My role was to be a facilitator. Since I’m only a freshman, we had other guys that could score on the team, so my job was to just get them involved,” said Dalton.
“It felt good once I found out I was going to start, but it didn’t surprise me because I was working hard in practice.”
Now, he’ll shift his focus to what will be an important 15U grassroots season. Dalton told PHNV that he’ll play with Vegas Elite this spring and summer. He played with them sixth-grade year, and has been with a different team the past two grassroots seasons.
“I’m playing with them because I’m trying to get known more. I want to not only be known in Las Vegas, but I want to be known all across the West Coast. I think they’re one of the best teams in the nation, so I’m looking forward to playing for a winning program that will make me better,” said Dalton.
“I’m looking to be recruited by some colleges, I’ve been trying to get recruited. I’m going to try and get an offer or some interest this summer.”
