The regular season came to an end about week ago before the region tournament week. Cobb County Public Schools in McEachern, Pebblebrook, and South Cobb captured their region titles. With the final polls in from the regular season, here are our #3, #7, #11, and #15 squads.
Note: Final Cobb County Public School Ranks: McEachern, Pebblebrook, South Cobb, Wheeler, Kennesaw Mountain, Campbell, Pope, Sprayberry, North Cobb, Allatoona, Walton, Kell, Hillgrove, Harrison, Marietta, Lassiter, Osborne.
#3 South Cobb High School (Austell, GA) – 18-8
Coach Moultrie and the South Cobb Eagles captured the Region 6 class 6A championship this past weekend after their win over Sprayberry High School. The post Trevin Wade season has been great for the Eagles this year. With no star product on this South Cobb team, Coach Moultrie and his staff just find ways to get the job done. 2018 point guard Roscoe Spurill was recently named on the all region team for Region 6 6A and on the All Cobb County honorable mentions list. 2019 guard Demetrius Brown, 2019 guard Jaiden Diamond, and senior forward Michael McClendon were put on the Region 6 6A all region team as well. South Cobb will host Tri Cities High School in the first round of the class 6A state tournament this Friday night.
#7 Pope High School (Marietta, GA) 18-9
It was a tough stretch for Coach Abney his Pope squad towards the end of the season this year. Pope ended the season losing 4 out of their last 5 games, this includes region tournament play. Besides that, it has been a good season for the Greyhounds as they finished 18-9. 2018 wing Jackson Baylark was recently named on the all region 1st team for Region 7 6A and the All Cobb County honorable mention list. Pope will travel to Gainesville High School for their first round matchup in the class 6A state tournament.
#11 Walton High School (Marietta, GA) – 13-13
It might not look as good on paper but Coach Abney has done a fabolous job in his first year as the Walton Head Coach. The Raiders are just at .500 with a 13-13 record and finishing 4th in Region 4 class 7A. 2018 forward Blaine McDonough was named on the 1st team all region list for Region 4 7A. and the All Cobb County honorable mention team. His twin brother 2018 forward Patrick McDonough was put on the 2nd team all region list for Region 4 7A. The Raiders will head to state and face McEachern High School in the first round this Saturday night at McEachern High School.
#15 Marietta High School (Marietta, GA) – 6-15
The Marietta Blue Devils boys season ended last Tuesday as they fell to Hillgrove in a close game 51-48 in the Region 3 7A region tournament. 2019 guard Treylan Smith was recently named to the 2nd team all region team for Region 3 7A. With Smith returning and a few other key pieces, the Blue Devils should be better next season with their experience. Let us remember a name, 2021 point guard Travis Burrus. Travis is the poing guard of the future hopefully for Marietta and has very good potential at the point guard spot.
