Final Regular Season Cobb County Polls Pt. 2
The regular season came to an end about week ago before the region tournament week. Cobb County Public Schools in McEachern, Pebblebrook, and South Cobb captured their region titles. With the final polls in from the regular season, here are our #2, #6, #10, and #16 squads.
Note: Final Cobb County Public School Ranks: McEachern, Pebblebrook, South Cobb, Wheeler, Kennesaw Mountain, Campbell, Pope, Sprayberry, North Cobb, Allatoona, Walton, Kell, Hillgrove, Harrison, Marietta, Lassiter, Osborne.
#2 Pebblebrook High School (Mabelton, GA) – 24-2
The Pebblebrook Falcons are currently on a 22 game winning streak, last lost coming back in late November. It has been an amazing year for the Pebblebrook Falcons this year and head coach Coach Washington. Pebblebrook lost some key pieces from last year’s squad, senior Drue Drinnon transferring to University School (FL), junior forward Jared Jones transferring to McEachern High School (GA), junior point guard Messiah Thompson transferring back to North Atlanta High School (GA), and senior guard Collin Sexton graduating and now at Alabama. But new stars emerged this season for the Falcons. This has been one of Coach Washington’s better teams and this group loves to make each other better and play well together. seniors combo guard DJ Murray, combo guard Grant Howard, shooting guard Josh Graham, and wing Mervin James have all had steller seasons. Let us not forget 2019 point guard Jalen Harper. The Falcons are not done as of yet as they recently captured their 2nd consecutive region title after Grant Howard hits a game winning floater at the buzzer as they defeated Wheeler High School this past Saturday night. The Falcons will host their first round state tournament in class 7A, opponent to be announced later this week.
#6 Campbell High School (Smyrna, GA) – 18-9
Coach Gwynn and his staff had another decent season this year. Campbell plays in one of the toughest regions in the state of Georgia and have been for awhile now, facing Wheeler, Pebblebrook, and Westlake twice or maybe three times a year. The Spartans are always a scrappy team and a team that will compete. Battling injuries all season, Campbell still shows their toughness and ends the regular season 18-9 and 4th place in Region 2 7A. 2019s point guard Terrell Burden was recently named 1st team all region for Region 2 7A and 2nd team All Cobb County and wing Donovan Grant was recently named to 2nd team all region in Region 2 7A and 2nd team All Cobb County. Campbell will be traveling to Tift County High School, the defending class 7A state champs, later this week in the first round the class 7A state tournament. With the Spartans hustle, energy, and toughness, let us not be surprised if they pull out the upset.
#10 Allatoona High School (Acworth, GA) – 14-14
It has been an up down season the Allatoona Buccaneers this year. The post Trey Doomes season did not start off too well for Allatoona in the beginning of the year but the Bucs ended the season 9-5 and making it to the state tournament. Unfortunately they will be traveling to Langston Hughes High School, the defending class 6A state champs, later this week in the first round of the state tournament for class 6A. Allatoona finished the regular season in 4th place in Region 6 class 6A.
#16 Lassiter High School (Marietta, GA) – 4-20
The Trojans surprisingly shocked the world last year with it’s upset win in the region tournament to make there way to the class 7A state tournament. This year was a little different. Lassiter only won four games this season and did not pull of their region tournament upset like they did a year ago. However it was a great senior season for 2018 guards Will Okonta, who was named to the 2nd team all region team for Region 4 7A, and Ben Wimmer. Hopefully the Trojans can bounce back next season and have a better year on the hardwood.
