Recruiting Report: Will Turner (2019)
Gilbert’s got a good one with 6-foot guard Will Turner, and the once up-and-coming prospect is now one of Central Iowa’s best veteran prospects.
And it’s this summer, when he plays with Iowa Cornsharks 17U, when Turner could see his recruitment start to soar.
“I’m really excited for the summer, getting back out there with some of my guys, it’s going to be a really good summer, and we should be really competitive,” said Turner.
“A few weeks ago, Simpson contacted me, saying they would keep in touch. And in terms of recruitment, that’s about the only thing I’ve seen so far.”
Turner is looking forward to getting out to several tournaments this spring and summer, and says that’s when he hopes to see his recruitment pick up.
“Coming into this summer, we’re going to be at a lot of the Prep Hoops exposure tournaments, and that’s an opportunity we’re really looking forward to. It’ll be fun to go up against other top guards against the Midwest,” said Turner.
“I want to show that I can not only compete with them, but there’s things that I can do better than them.”
Will Turner is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 75 prospect in his class.
Tuner has enjoyed a solid a career with the Tigers since his freshman season when he as a role player with the varsity, to now, when he’s the team’s primary scorer.
He’s also enjoying some added height, Turner has sprouted from 5’8 to 6′ since the start of his sophomore season to now.
“I’ve grown a couple inches since last year, so that’s helped a lot. On the defensive end, I used to be able to guard just the point guards on the other teams and not their best player, but now, I have a little more length and height, and I’m able to really step up and go toe-to-toe with top players,” said Turner.
“Another thing is my pull-up jumper, I can go full-speed and stop on a dime and hit a jumper.”
Gilbert will play its final regular season game tonight against Bondurant-Farrar before starting a post-season journey on Monday night against Boone.
“As a team, we started out pretty slow, but lately we’ve been playing some pretty good basketball. I’ve had a much bigger role this year than I’ve had in the past. And it helps having guys around me that are always in the right spot,” said Turner.
“And we’re looking forward to making a deep run into the playoffs.”
