Nike Extravaganza: Top Friday Performers
The 23rd annual Nike Extravaganza is one of the premier showcase atmosphere’s in all of high school basketball.
The 2018 edition delivered the same results, for the most part, bringing together many of Southern California’s top programs, along with two out of state programs, for the two-day, 14-game event.
Prep Hoops So-Cal was in attendance for all three sessions of Nike Extravaganza and this piece dives in to the top five performers from Friday’s set of games.
Top Friday Performers
Vaughn Flowers, Rolling Hills Prep
The 6-foot-2 sophomore wing scored 24 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter, to help the Huskies roll Corona del Mar, 70-54. Flowers is a guy that’s known for his clamps as a perimeter defender, but he used the big stage to showcase his offensive repertoire. Flowers displayed an improved stroke and confidence from 3-point range, connecting on 4 of 7 from deep. He shot 10 of 17 from the field overall.
Rolling Hills Prep wing Vaughn Flowers scored 24 points in a win over Corona del Mar.Evan Mobley, Rancho Christian
JSerra had no answer for either Mobley brother, but especially Evan. The 6-foot-10 sophomore finished with game-highs in both points and rebounds with 22 and 15, respectively, in the Eagles 64-39 blowout of the Lions. The high-low action between Evan and Isaiah has proved to be one of the hardest connections to stop this season and Evan showed an increased aggressiveness in absorbing and trying to finish through contact as he went 10-for-12 from the free throw line.
Tim Adetukasi, Saddleback Valley Christian
Adetukasi has been a walking double-double this season and kept that rolling with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 62-55 win over Servite. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound junior forward plays with a motor that doesn’t quit and sticks to his strengths of finishing around the basket and crashing the offensive and defensive glass.
Shawn Woodson, Servite
Woodson, a freshman, has worked his way into a starting role for the Friars and is a stellar young piece to build a program around. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound left handed wing is a serious threat as a catch-and-shooter from 3-point range as he hit six in Servite’s loss to Saddleback Valley Christian. Woodson finished with 23 points and seven rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Noah Fernando, Heritage Christian
Fernando scored 31 points, including six 3-pointers in the Warriors loss to Mater Dei Friday, adding on to his stellar 24.1 points per game average this season. The 6-foot-3 junior is a threat to score from all three levels and the improved efficiency in his shot selection and 3-point shooting has opened up the floor for him to create for himself and teammates off the dribble.
