ALEXANDRIA, VA — Episcopal High School held the 2018 Virginia Challenge on Saturday, where all four teams from Northern Virginia came out victorious against some formidable teams from Central Virginia. Here we break down 10 standouts from the event.
PRESTON BACON | POTOMAC SCHOOL ’19
Preston Bacon demonstrated all the intangibles you look for in a point guard during his team’s win on Saturday. The 2019 point guard made good reads with the ball in his hands, defended well, and showed that he wasn’t scared to step in and take a charge.
DOMENICK BAILEY | SSSAS ’18
As the lone senior on a young team, Domenick Bailey continues to lead by example. His aggressiveness was evident offensively, where he showcased the ability to score from all three levels.
ROBBIE BERAN | COLLEGIATE ’19

At 6-foot-8 with very long limbs, Robbie Beran stood out both with his ability to protect the rim, and his verastility on offense. The class of 2019 wing can stretch the floor, but also has the skills to beat his man off the bounce and finish strong.
CHRISTIAN DEPOLLAR | SSSAS ’19
Christian Depollar has been shooting the lights out all season for SSSAS. The 6’5 junior wing knocked down a couple of triples in the first half of a commanding win over FUMA.
DEVON FLOWERS | POTOMAC SCHOOL ’18

We’ve mentioned this before, and it should be mentioned again. Devon Flowers is a terrific defender, both in the paint and on the perimeter. The 6’9 big man moves his feet quickly and uses his length well to harass and pressure opposing ball-handlers.
MIKE GRIMES | POTOMAC SCHOOL ’18
Mike Grimes caught fire on Saturday. The class of 2018 guard knocked down five triples on his way to 17 points.
GIBSON JIMERSON | ST. CHRISTOPHER’S ’19

Gibson Jimerson is primarily recognized for his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter, as he led the UAA in 3 point efficiency. We saw his improved ability off the bounce on Saturday. The class of 2019 wing is developing a well-rounded offensive skill set, and at 6’5 does a nice job on the defensive boards.
XAVIER JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL ’19

In a game played at a fast pace, Xavier Johnson thrived as he pushed the tempo aggressively and got his teammates involved. The class of 2019 point guard, who led his team with 16 points, showcased craftiness off the bounce, and deep range on his jump shot.
XAVIER LIPSCOMB | SSSAS ’20
SSSAS communicates a ton defensively, and Xavier Lipscomb is a big reason why. The sophomore lead guard is often heard calling out to his teammates and letting them know what’s going on.
ISAIAH MOORE | FLINT HILL ’18
Isaiah Moore set the tone during Flint Hill’s explosive third quarter run in a win vs. FUMA. The class of 2018 point guard, who consistently picked up full court, is a pesky on ball defender who can score it from all three levels.
CHARLES THOMPSON | SSSAS ’19
Charles Thompson is another big reason why SSSAS is a solid defensive team. Another solid communicator, the 6’7 junior positions himself well on the back line, and rebounds effectively in traffic. Another thing we absolutely love about Thompson is his consistently high motor.
QUDUS WAHAB | FLINT HILL ’19

Qudus Wahab once again anchored a solid defensive effort from the Huskies, especially in the third quarter where they outscored FUMA 33-12. VCU was in to see the nationally touted 7-foot junior.
