The five best handles in the Northeast Ohio area
Who is the guy with the rock in his hand who is most likely to get his defender falling backward as if he were on ice skates amongst the guards in Northeast Ohio?
It’s question to ponder because in attempting to uncover the answer you’ll likely find some of your best ball handlers.
Here’s a list of the guys who are most likely to cross somebody up and get slipping and sliding on their way to getting beat off the dribble. Another thing to note, they are between 5’9” and 6’1”.
Alex Heath (2018) Garfield Heights
Heath has an ability to stop and start on a dime while keeping the ball on a string. He can also get you with that quick crossover step-back jumper from mid-range. Very fun guy to watch, but has fallen prey to overdribbling or dribbling into problems at times during games I’ve seen him play.
Jerry Higgins (2018) Villa-Angela St. Joseph
This guy can really move with the ball and is continually able to get into the paint in good part because of his strong handles. If you do check him out also watch for VASJ freshman Jaden Hameed, who deserves mention.
D.J. Dial (2019) Brush
His coach Chet Mason doesn’t think there is a guard in the state who can stay in front of the quick and shifty Dial. He used that ability to go coast-to-coast late to score what turned out to be the go-ahead points in a big win over Cornerstone Christian at the Dunk 4 Diabetes Shootout.
Sincere Carry (2018) Solon
The guy who makes the undefeated Comets go is having an outstanding year. Apparently fully recovered from a knee injury, he makes a highlight play after highlight play with the ball in his hands.
Devon Grant (2019) Lorain
This guy can really get up and down the floor and keeps the ball on the proverbial string. He can make a back-pedaling defender look foolish.
Deserving note: Yahel Hill (2018), Cleveland Heights: Alfonse Hale (2018), Maple Heights; Dale Bonner (2018), Shaker Heights; MJ Smith (2018) North Ridgeville; Garvin Clarke (2020) Euclid.
