3A Mr. Basketball Candidates
For the most part, our predictions as far as who would be the top teams in 3A have come into fruition. Further, the top prospects who are in consideration for Mr. Basketball have shined greatly as well. Here are the top prospects for Mr. Basketball from 3A.
Top 5 3A Mr. Basketball Candidates
Caleb Barton 6’0 PG/SG 2018 South Sevier
Barton has done it all for South Sevier. While he is assisted by one of the other top prospects in this classification and another player in the running for this award, Barton has managed to led the team in points, assists, and rebounds. South Sevier has lost a couple of games as of late. However, behind Barton and Tebbs, this group will be more than ready for the state tournament.
Cade Russell 6’2 PG/SG 2018 Morgan
Russell and Morgan were mentioned in our Way Too Early rankings. However, despite having high expectations for this group, it is safe to say that they have still exceeded my expectations. They are playing at an extremely high level and Russell is leading the way. Morgan looks like the prime candidate to win the state title at this point.
Cameron Hoppensteadt 6’4 PF/C 2019 Grand
Hoppensteadt is one of the only none guards to make this list. His ability to finish around the rim and get after on the glass has been a game changer for Grand. While most teams in 3A have guards who can make impacts and change the game, few have a 4/5 who can impact it in the same way that Hoppensteadt does.
Derek Smith Derek Smith 6'1" | PF Delta | 2020 State UT 6’0 PG/SG 2020 Delta
Smith has had a strong season and looks poised to be one of the best prospects to come out of Delta in quite some time. The youthful and talented prospect has aided Delta greatly in over achieving expectations. Further, his strong play and potential gives strong reason for people to believe that this group will contend for the state title at least the next 3 years.
Jon Parker 6’4 PG/SG 2018 Union
Parker has largely led the surge that has brought Union back into the title and tournament picture. His length and ability to shoot the basketball makes him an elite prospect at this particular classification. Opposing teams are not going to be able to hold him. Rather, they need to hope that he engages in voluming and low efficiency scoring in order to beat Union in the 1 and down format.
