Top Performers: Archbishop Hoban v. VASJ
A competitive first half turned into a blowout win for Hoban in the third quarter, as they took their lead from two to 20 in the period. Hoban ended up winning the contest over Villa Angela-St. Joseph 85-64 to move to 11-2 on the year.
Performances by four players stood out in the game, so we’ll give you the rundown on their game in this recap.
Garrett Houser (2018), 6′ PG, Hoban
The Navy football signee showed why could’ve landed at the Division II level as a lead guard. Houser pushes the break with his athleticism, makes plays for others on the drive, and dropped in a couple jumpers also. His court vision and ability to create passing angles by beating his man led to efficient shooting days for Quan Easterling and Jake Snyder.
Even though his playing days are over in a short few months, Houser’s ability and toughness will make Hoban a challenge in the postseason.
Collen Gurley (2018), 6’2″ G, Hoban
Gurley is a shooting specialist that could land at the D-II, NAIA, or D-III level. He’s confident from beyond the arch and doesn’t need much separation or time to deliver his quick-release stroke. His frame and quickness could allow him to defend larger guards on the wing next season.
Jaden Hameed (2021), 5’11” PG, VASJ
The freshman showed maturity with the ball in his hands. While not forcing the issue as a scorer, Hameed found opportunities for his 3-point shot and floater within the offense. He’s a quick athlete with a strong frame for a freshman. Expect him to develop into a top point guard in the 2021 class as he grows in this historic program.
Jerry “Gene” Higgins (2018), 5’10” PG, VASJ
Although Higgins didn’t have a consistent outside shooting performance, he was still able to affect the game as a defender and distributor. His quickness with the ball is a problem on the perimeter as he beats most guys off the dribble. In the lane, Higgins has developed crafty finishing skills.
