Five Takeaways: Broken Arrow vs Sapulpa
From the beginning of the Top-10 Matchup in Class 6A between Broken Arrow and Sapulpa, the Tigers looked in control. The Tigers were dominant against Sapulpa as they opened up a big lead in the first quarter. The game slowed down in the second quarter for both teams as Broken Arrow took a 12-point advantage at the break. Sapulpa started the second half strong as they cut the lead to 6 at one point, but then the trio of Caleb Huffman, Camryn Dennis and Josh Robinson took over. They never trailed against the Chieftains as they beat a Sapulpa team who did not have their best player available, 69-56.
The Absence
Julian Smith 2019 Sapulpa Guard
The biggest takeaway from this game was noticed from the start. Julian Smith did not dress out to play as he is out with an apparent knee injury. Smith is the star for the Chieftains and his absence was noticed. The Chieftains struggled to score without their leading contributor on the court. Smith is expected to be back next week after undergoing tests on Monday.
The Playmaker
Josh Robinson 2018 Broken Arrow Guard
Robinson started the game strong for Broken Arrow. He scored their first six points and got the team rolling from the start. He attacked the rim over and over forcing Sapulpa to foul him or let him finish at the rim. Robinson even included some show-stopping dunks throughout the night as he put on a show. Robinson finished the game with 19 points on the night.
The Next Level
Camryn Dennis 2019 Broken Arrow Guard
Dennis has taken his game to another level as of late. Early in the season Broken Arrow was still working out the kinks as they added Robinson and Dennis seemed to suffer a bit. The Tigers have now found their stride and are starting to look more and more like a team that could take home the gold ball at the end of the season. Dennis taking his game to another level is a big reason why the Tigers have hit their stride. Dennis finished the game with 18 points.
MVP
Caleb Huffman 2018 Broken Arrow Guard
Huffman is a beast. He was consistent throughout the game for the Tigers. He looked confident and under control the whole game as he took the game over. He was the MVP for Broken Arrow. He was hitting shot in the pick and roll game and Sapulpa could not find a way to stop him. Huffman was active at all three levels on the court as he showed his range and attacked the basket well. Huffman was the top scorer for the game with 22 points.
The Bright Spot
Jacoby Durant 2019 Sapulpa Guard
Durant is usually tandem with Julian Smith and can usually find open shots because of the attention that Smith draws to himself. However without Smith in the lineup Durant showed he could still score efficiently and effectively. Durant was bright for Sapulpa and showed that he could hold his own against a very talented Broken Arrow team. Durant was the leading scorer for the Chieftains on the night with 18 points
