The Week’s Top Games in WNC
On Thursday, West Henderson HS will tangle with Hendersonville HS in a match-up of two of the top teams’ in the county. West Henderson has been getting strong numbers from sophomore guard Ben Bryson, the son of Head Coach Joey Bryson. Ben is a skilled guard that doesn’t make mistakes and can score the basketball. He is growing and should be one of the top guards’ in the area over the next two seasons. Hendersonville features 6-foot-9, 2019 forward Ben Beeker, an agile big man that is averaging nearly 17 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Landon HenleyOn Tuesday, Enka HS hosts North Buncombe HS for a match-up with two of the areas top guards. 2019 guard Jake Smith of Enka High School has had some high scoring games so far this season including going over the 40-point mark twice. The 6-foot-1 Smith has improved every day since joining up with Team South Carolina last season. He has improved ball-handling, gotten stronger, improved shooting and put some muscle on his frame. North Buncombe HS has a high-scoring guard of their own in Ren Dyer, a 6-foot-3 wing/guard who has been filling it up for The Hawks all season. He two has had some games of 40-plus points this season and has continued to average nearly 30 points per game this season, god enough for 3rd in the state according to MaxPreps. Dyer recently picked up an offer from Western Carolina University, his first college basketball scholarship offer.
A key game on Friday will be between Tuscola High School and Asheville High School. The return of Landon Henley will be critical for The Mountaineers along with his average of nearly 25 points and close to 14 rebounds per game. He sprained his ankle almost a week ago and has been nursing it. Asheville High School features one of the top 100 2020 players in the state with Tyrese Thompson, a skilled guard that has been playing since his freshman season on varsity.
