There are only a select few high school players that are possible nominees for a Player of the Week award every time out. Chaska’s Cole Nicholson is one of them. His performances of 32 and 39 points last week propelled him into becoming the latest winner of SW Metro Boys Athlete of the Week.
Cole caught up with NHR to discuss the Hawks season.
”The season has been going great. Had a couple tough losses to Eden Prairie, North St. Paul and Orono,” Cole said. “We also have beat some good teams like Edina, Lakeville North, Shakopee, and Eastview.”
Supported by fellow varsity veterans Parker Bjorklund and Matt Eliason, Cole has been steadily productive with the ball in his hands; that’s been a focus for him lately and it’s paying off, proven by his 24.7 ppg average this season. “I worked really hard this year becoming more of an offensive threat. I worked on my perimeter shooting, ball handling, and increasing my vertical jump,” he said. “I am always striving to get better on all aspects of my game.”
When it comes to recruiting, Nicholson has plenty of buzz, but that’s not his primary concern at the moment.
“I’ve heard from a number of schools, however right now I’m focused on making my dreams a reality both on the court and academically by working hard and taking my game to the next level.”
No doubt that determination will assist Cole and Chaska basketball for the rest of this year and next.
