Top Performers: ARS/Rescue Rooter Tampa Hoopfest (Day 1)
Three games were played on Friday night at Berkeley Prep. The crowds were pretty into it and a lot of good play occurred on the main floor on Day 1 of the ARS/Rescue Rooter Tampa Hoopfest.
Here is a look at the top performances from the opening day’s action.
Tyrieke Blakeney (West Oaks)
West Oaks senior guard Tyrieke Blakeney is one of the best finishers in the state. He took the ball to the rack time and time again in a 77-64 victory over Berkeley Prep. Blakeney had 33 points in a game that was closer than the Flame wanted it to be for a while.
Jermaine Couisnard (Montverde PG)
A strong and determined point guard, Jermaine Couisnard led his Montverde PG team with 18 points in a 62-56 win over IMG PG in the nightcap. Couisnard had eight points at the end of the first half. He showed why he’s a high-major Division I player throughout the matchup.
Jaemyn Brakefield (Huntington Prep)
Only a sophomore, Jaemyn Brakefield is one dangerous shooter. He led Huntington Prep with 25 points in a 87-56 win over Oldsmar Christian. Brakefield is lengthy, athletic and not afraid to head to the basket when needed.
Kegan Karnes (Berkeley Prep)
Berkeley Prep sophomore guard Kegan Karnes is a lot of fun to watch. The younger brother of senior guard Kaleb Karnes, Kegan had a team-best 21 points in the loss to West Oaks. He hit from outside with ease and showed improved moves to create space for himself.
Cashius McNeilly (Huntington Prep)
The sophomore pair alongside Brakefield, Cashius McNeilly had a nice outing with 18 points. He is a lethal 3-point shooter. He rarely missed on the afternoon and he has the looks of a high-major Division I player who has endless potential.
Eric Ayala/Jaylen Sebree (IMG PG)
Anfernee Simons sat out due to being sick, but Eric Ayala and Jaylen Sebree took care of the rock and made things happen for IMG PG to end the first day. Ayala is headed to Maryland next fall while Sebree is still waiting to make his decision after decommitting from Coastal Carolina in late September.
Selton Miguel (West Oaks)
West Oaks guard Selton Miguel has a knack for the big play. Lengthy and smart, the sophomore worked for all 15 of his points in the win over Berkeley Prep. Every game I see him play, the better he gets.
Ricardo Clouden/Tyrese Williams (Oldsmar Christian)
It wasn’t a fun game for Oldsmar Christian but seniors Ricardo Clouden and Tyrese Williams displayed flashes of impressive play with 13 and 12 points respectively. The revamped Oldsmar group is putting the pieces together.
