Shawnee Invitational Standouts
Prep Hoops was on hand to watch the action at the Shawnee Invitational this weekend. Get a look at what players improved their stock.
Andrew Keathley 2019 Coweta Post
Keathley is a 6’7 Post that had a good performance when we watched him earlier this year, which intrigued me coming into the matchup today. He did not disappoint finishing extremely well when given the ball in the Post with his back to the basket. On the defensive end, Keathley rebounded well for the Tigers. Keathley has the size and skill set to be an NCAA Division II player at the next level.
Braden Norris 2018 Coweta Guard (Signed to Oklahoma Baptist)
Norris hit some big shots in the second half from behind the arc. He is a sharpshooter that’ll need a year or two at Oklahoma Baptist but could turn into a solid role player guy for the Bison in his upperclassman years.
Chris Johnson 2018 Southeast Guard
Johnson was Mr. Consistent for Southeast as they nearly pulled off the upset against Sapulpa. Johnson did a little bit of everything for Southeast bringing the ball up, running the offense, scoring by getting the rim, and playing tough defense. Johnson projects to the NAIA Division II to JUCO level with his size at 6’2, muscular build, and leadership on the floor.
Marcus Hines 2021 Southeast Point Guard
Hines is a name to keep on the radar for the future. He is a young small Point Guard with a huge heart and big jumper. He knocked down three clutch three-pointers on the night to go along with a huge and one late in the game. Hines is a gamer we will be keeping track of his progress throughout high school.
Eli Hollis 2019 El Reno Post
Hollis has gotten a lot stronger since I last saw him in the summer. He stands at every bit of 6’8 with a very long wingspan. Hollis is raw in a lot of areas but can be a good solid defender inside adjusting and blocking shots. His level at this time is projected to the NAIA Division II level, but it could improve as he still has a lot of time to continue to grow his game. The size of Hollis will help him a lot when it comes to the next level.
Julian Smith 2019 Sapulpa Point Guard
It was ugly three quarters in for Smith but he did what only good players can do and rebounded in the fourth quarter to lift his team to victory. Smith scored the ball best getting to the rim and finishing through traffic. It was not the night he hoped for; however, the win will make him happy. Smith scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Dyson Plumley 2019 El Reno Wing
Plumley was the most efficient player for El Reno doing a little bit of everything for the Indians. He scored the ball at all three levels using his 6’4 size and a good frame. He has improved at making his teammates better around him. Plumley is a prospect NCAA Division II programs should have on the radar in the Oklahoma 2019 Class.
Elijah Durham 2018 El Reno Point Guard
Durham was a floor general scoring the ball at a high clip on the day with 21 points to lead all scorers. Durham has a reliable jumper, and he shot it best from three-point range. He is a smaller Point Guard that uses a change of pace and craftiness to finish in the paint. He is an intriguing Point Guard that JUCO’s should take a look at in the 2018 Oklahoma Class.
Drake Stoops 2018 Norman North Point Guard (Signed to Oklahoma for Football)
Stoops is a great glue guy for the Timberwolves at Point Guard. Most games Stoops takes the role of handling the ball, finding open teammates, hustling for loose balls and so on. This one, however, Stoops was needed to score the basketball. He came through for Norman North scoring a game-high 22 points for Norman North in a victory. Drake is not going to play basketball in college but certainly will help Norman North in their hopes for a Class 6A Gold Ball.
Shemar Smith 2019 Norman North Post
Smith a 2019 Post that is starting to figure some things out for Norman North. Coming off a big summer with Oklahoma Power he has continued to build this high school season. Smith posted 16 points scoring the ball efficiently inside and from mid-range. Smith was very active on the boards showing great energy and force in the paint to secure rebounds.
Brock Schreiner 2018 Choctaw Point Guard
Schreiner was a masterful creator for Choctaw in Shawnee at Point Guard. He put on full display his ability to not just score but create offense for his teammates. NCAA Divison II programs are heavily recruiting Schreiner, and it is easy to see why. The best part of his game is not his scoring (which is good), but the way he makes others around him better. Prep Hoops projects him to the NCAA Division II level.
Daryl Busby 2018 Shawnee Wing
Busby was a sharpshooter from the Wing for Shawnee. He did not get a bunch of opportunities but was very successful when he did. Busby could help an NAIA Division II squad at the next level. He did all the dirty work for Shawnee playing tough defense with his 6’3 lean build. Busby has some sneaky athleticism to his game.
LJ McKissick 2018 Shawnee Forward
McKissick was the most consistent player for Shawnee scoring the ball well inside for the Wolves. He could contribute at the NCAA Division III or NAIA Division II level with the right program. He is undersized but does what he can to help his squad.
