Games to Watch Week 7 (SD): Thursday
January 18, 2018 has a few games that should catch the basketball consumer’s eyes. We are just about halfway through the season which sounds crazy, but as we are now in week 7, all the games are intriguing and have state playoff impact.
Top Game:
Vermillion @ A #2 Sioux Falls Christian
Sioux Falls Christian has a very tough next two days, which includes tonight’s match-up with a hot Vermillion team. When I say ‘hot’ Vermillion team, I am more speaking to the fact they have won four in a row and senior AJ Plitzuweit has been going nuts. He scored a career high 52 in a win over Lennox last week and averaged over 40 this past week. He single handily makes this team a credible threat. SFC is still unbeaten and they will look to create lots of scoring opportunities with their tempo and offensive balance. I think a key to this is how well Vermillion can defend; if they can do a good job then Plitzuweit can score and we might have ourselves a fun one. If not, SFC might put up a crooked number and cruise.
Other games to to watch:
Dell Rapids St Mary vs Colman-Egan
This is one of the many games in the Dakota Valley Conference tourney that is happening in Lake Preston and/or Estelline this week. Dell Rapids St Mary (6-3) is led by the freshman duo of Connor Libis and Max Herber. These two have been very good for DRSM this season each putting up big numbers and Libis is averaging over 20 pts/gm. Colman-Egan (5-4) is led by senior Bodee Gross who recently went over 1,000 points in his career. Winner of this will play in the championship Saturday so if you’re int he area, go check it out!
Parkston @ A #10 Bon Homme
Bon Homme has continued to win and look better each game while doing so. Led by 6’4” senior Bryce Scieszinski the Cavaliers are currently 9-1 and ranked #10 in the state in Class A. Parkston is 6-4 not he season but has played a close game in just about every contest. They need consistency from heir team not he offensive end to match Bon Homme’s defense and athleticism. Parkston only has four upperclassmen and the rest of their roster consist of freshman and sophomores. They’re learning how to win as they grow while Bon Homme seems to be on a mission this season.
