5 Takeaways from McCutcheon vs. Crawfordsville
On a cold Tuesday night, Robert Phinesee came to town to take on Cameron Harris and the Crawfordsville Athenians. McCutcheon controlled the game from the opening tip and never looked back as Phinisee had a huge night. Phinisee ended the night with 36 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals. McCutcheon ran away with the win, 98-39.
Rob Phinisee cemented himself as one of the best guards in the state
Tonight, Phinisee went off. Crawfordsville isn’t the team they have been but they still should have stopped him a little bit. That didn’t happen and Phinisee ran all over the court. Finishing with 36 points (13/18) he really got into the lane at will and finished with four three-point plays while finishing through contact at the rim. He really showed me that he can do more than just score as he added in 9 assists. His vision was really good in this one as he consistently found the open man and looked the defender off before he threw the pass.
Kobie McNeely is a true threat to score in many different ways
McNeely is a kid that we know can score the ball and in this one he really showed me that he could do so. He was perfect from behind the arc and got to the rim as well. He’s a guy that I wanted to see shoot the ball well and mix in getting to the rim as well. In this one, he did that and looked really good doing so.
Cameron Harris is an underrated player for Crawfordsville
Harris struggled in this one but still scored 15 points and hauled in seven rebounds all while picking up two early fouls sending him to the bench. Harris is a strong guard that has gotten quicker as the year has gone on. He is getting his teammates more involved and is having a few games where he goes off for 25 or more. He’s getting mainly NAIA looks right now but I would expect a couple D2s to come in and at least take a glance at him.
When on, McCutcheon can really shoot the ball
McCutcheon has four guys who can shoot it from deep and if two of them are on, it’s going to be a long night for the opponent. Phinisee made four tonight, McNeely made four, Tyson made two and Ferrell, one of their better shooters, made one tonight. They were on fire from the floor tonight making 58% from the floor and 44% from deep.
If McCutcheon plays like this, they can make a run
It will be tough as they have Zionsville, Lafayette Jefferson, and Kokomo are all in their sectional. It will be an uphill climb for them this year as they just don’t have the pieces and an off night from their shooters could spell trouble. But, they could run through this really hot and surprise a few teams this year.
