Top Small College PGs
There are still a ton of quality small college point guards on the board that can help teams out at that level. Here we breakdown some of the ones that we feel would make the biggest impact there.
Michael Smith (Joliet West)
Current Ranking: #67
Travel Team: Illinois T-Wolves
Smith is a tough scoring lead guard that can get really hot from beyond the arc. He showed that quite a few times over the summer with the Illinois T-Wolves going on some insane shooting barrages. Can take a bump at hoop as well.
Jack Marinko (Edwardsville)
Current Ranking: #77
Travel Team: Gateway Illinois
Marinko is another scoring point guard with deep range on his perimeter shot. He can drill shots both pulling up and off the catch from beyond the arc. Solid feel passing it especially in the pick and roll.
Patrick Fisher (Bloomington)
Current Ranking: #91
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
For Bloomington the 6’1” floor general brings a calming force at the point. Controls the pace and gets others involved. Not a freakish athlete, but is a good one. He scores getting in the lane where gets buckets in the paint. Can hit an occasional pull up jumper.
Chris Pugh (Bloomington)
Current Ranking: #96
Travel Team: Team Illinois
Pugh is a 6’3” combo guard that is more of a scorer than distributor. He is quick twitched and likes to slash to the rim. He can get hot from three every now and then. Pugh is a small college or JUCO prospect.
Brian Conaghan (New Trier)
Current Ranking: #99
Travel Team: Hoops4Health
Conaghan stands at 6’2” and is a tough kid. He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Plus shooter with a quick release from three. Best off the catch. Not afraid to mix it up and dive after loose balls.
Ben Thompson (Bartlett)
Current Ranking: #100
Travel Team: Mercury Elite
Thompson put himself on the map over the summer with his perimeter shooting. Mostly a spot up shooter that can get really hot from deep.
David Swedura (Prospect)
Current Ranking: #102
Travel Team: Fundamental U
The Prospect senior shows us what makes him intriguing at the small college level. Crisp ball handler that can pass the rock with feel. Capable three point shooter off the catch. Tough kid.
Brandon Simberg (Libertyville)
Current Ranking: #112
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Simberg is a tough role player at the small college level that can provide an instant spark with his perimeter shooting off the catch.
Carter Higginbottom (St. Ignatius)
Current Ranking: #127
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Higginbottom is a tough lead guard that isn’t afraid to mix it up inside on drives to the hoop and is a sound passer.
