Recruiting Report: Brandon Maxwell (2018)
With his senior season now halfway complete, time is running out for colleges to get a good look at Wasatch’s 6-foot-6 stretch-four Brandon Maxwell.
Currently, Maxwell has no offers, but has been trying to be proactive with his recruiting approach, reaching out to coaches himself.
“I’ve reached out to SLCC, but I haven’t talked to them a ton, so it’s nothing too serious. I’m hoping to get some more interest here soon,” said Maxwell, who says he’d like to study engineering in college.
“I want to get the highest level of basketball possible, just to see what I can get there. I’ve talked a little but to a school in Montana, Montana Tech, and that’d be a good school for me because I want to study engineering in college.”
With a diverse set of skills and some decent size, Maxwell feels he could be an effective player at the college ranks. He mentioned his specific skill-set, strengths and weaknesses, to PHUT.
“Pull-up jumpers are my favorite way to score, and I can pump-fake and move in to hit a 15-footer. And also, offensive rebounds lead to a lot of points for me, and I can kick those our for assists, too,” said Maxwell.
“I think the biggest thing for me is that I need to get stronger, so I’ve been working on that quite a bit. And then my ball-handling, I’ve been a big-man my whole life, but I’ve been transitioning to a three of four. I’ve been working on my ball-handling a lot.”
And with the rest of his senior ahead of him, Maxwell says the goal, in addition to being recruited, is to get the Wasps to the state tournament.
“We started out kind of rough, but we’ve been playing a lot better lately. My role is to be the leading rebounder and the leading scorer. And defensively, they need me to control the paint,” said Maxwell.
“Some of my goals are to average 15 points and 10 rebounds and just help lead us to the state championship. And that’s the end goal, I want that state title.”
