Iowa’s Player of the Week Poll (6)
Michael Sweeney (2019)
6’2 G, Waukon
It was a monster performance on Monday night that caught our eye, when Sweeney went for 43 points in a win over North Fayette. And he followed it with a very respectable 16 point, 6 rebound, 7 assist effort in another win over New Hampton. Sweeney is averaging 22 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game this season.
DJ Carton (2019)
6’2 PG, Bettendorf
Arguably the best point guard in the state, Carton has 13 Division I offers, including Iowa, Marquette and Wisconsin, and he gave them all reason to be excited last week in twom Bettendorf games last week. Carton was brilliamsn during the 1-1 week, averaging 32.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.5 steals.
Rhett Darland (2018)
6’3 SG, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows
The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys have caught fire, and sohas their 6’3 sharpshooting wing, Rhett Darland. A Waldorf commit, Darland averaged 27 points and did so while connecting on 13 deep balls. He was 7-7 from the free-throw line for good measure. Most importantly, his Cowboys got two more wins, and are riding a four game win streak.
Collin Lister (2019)
6’3 G, Carlisle
Carlisle is starting to hit their stride, winners of six of its last eight after an opening season loss to DC-G. In two more wins last week, the 6’3 guard averaged 28 points per game on 59 percent shooting, 55 percent from deep. Lister and the Wildcats will have a mister game against Norwalk this Tuesday.
Even Brauns (2020)
6’9 PF, Iowa City Regina
Already with offers from Northern Iowa and Drake, Even Brauns is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. His Regina squad is very dangerous, and at 8-3 sport one of the better records in 2A. Last week, the Regals split against Durant and Solon, and Brauns was a shot-blocking machine, going for 8.5 blocks per game. That’s what we call a game-changer.
