Marquee Matchups: Week 7 Recap
Jerome Hunter took the crown at Flyin’ to the Hoop, Toledo St. John’s head coach Ed Heintschel became the fourth coach ever to win his 700th, and plenty of games never even happened during week seven. Check out everything from week seven below!
Jan. 9: Solon (87) at Shaker Heights (71)
Mr. Basketball candidate Christian Guess missed his second-straight game, another loss for Shaker. Solon’s big three of Sincere Carry, Mike Bekelja, and Trent Williams combined for 58 points, per Cleveland.com.
Jan. 9: Princeton (75) at Mason (46)
Princeton is the real deal, guys. They destroyed Mason to move to 10-0. Their deep roster was led by 17 points and nine rebounds from Darius Bazley; seniors Darweshi Hunter and Dominic Pierce also scored 16 a piece, per the Greater Miami Conference website. This was Mason’s second loss in a row after a 7-0 start.
Jan. 9: Fort Loramie (48) at Versailles (46)
Fort Loramie, the best team in Division IV, put an end to Versailles’ undefeated run in an overtime thriller. Loramie held Ohio State signee Justin Ahrens to a season-low 12 points, per Sidney Daily News.
Jan. 9: Indian Hill (59) at Deer Park (77)
Both Cincinnati Hills League teams came in undefeated. Deer Park left the gym with an 18-point win and a firm grip of the conference lead. Sophomore guard Mark Wise scored 23 points to lead the way for DP, per Cincinnati.com.
Jan. 9: Pickerington North (91) at Dublin Coffman (88)
Pickerington North survived a road game against Coffman in double overtime. Indiana signee Jerome Hunter’s 48 points and 15 rebounds were instrumental for the Pick North victory. Coffman’s Nick Carlson and Dominiq Penn both scored 20, per 270 Hoops.
Jan. 11: Benedictine (63) at St. Vincent-St. Mary (76)
The defending Division II State Champs won their third game in a row and second over a quality Division I opponent. Lunden McDay scored a team-high 21 points for the Irish, per Cleveland.com.

Jan. 12: Toledo St. Francis (65) at Toledo St. John’s (86)
St. John’s continued their streak of 17 consecutive wins against their cross-town rival as Vincent Williams (35) and Houston King (29) scored career-highs, per the Toledo Blade.
Jan. 12: Springfield at Huber Heights Wayne — Rescheduled for Jan. 24
Jan. 12: Columbus South at Africentric — Rescheduled for Wednesday
Jan. 13: Lakewood St. Edward (45) at Toledo St. John’s (59)
Head coach Ed Heintschel became the fourth coach in Ohio history to win 700 games in a big non-conference game for both teams. Toledo St. John’s proves it belongs in the conversation for best in Ohio.
Jan. 13: St. Vincent-St. Mary (57) at Huber Heights Wayne (68)
Rashad McKee had a breakout game for Wayne, scoring 20 points to lead the way against a hot St. Vincent-St. Mary team, per the Dayton Daily News. Wayne improved to 11-0 going into their game against Upper Arlignton on Monday night.
Jan. 13: Pickerington North (51) vs. Princeton (38) at Flyin’ to the Hoop
Indiana signee Jerome Hunter scored 23 points and held Darius Bazley to just 12 in a showdown of top Ohio prospects. It was the eighth consecutive win for Pick North after dropping two games at the beginning of December.
