Kaleb Jenkins continues to be one of 2019’s most sought-after guards, and the 5-foot-10 floor-general certainly has a big year ahead of him
The Country Day junior recently nabbed his first offer from an area NAIA program, and has a bit of additional D1 interest coming his way.
“I recently picked up an offer from Xavier in New Orleans, so that’s nice. And Tulane’s head coach has been at a couple of my games, as well as Xavier,” said Jenkins.
“Another school that has been talking to me is Stephen F. Austin.”
Jenkins elaborated on Xavier, a local school that’s located just down the street from where he resides.
“I have not visited yet, but I know they are a very good and highly competitive program,” said Jenkins. “I pass it daily on my way to school.”
Currently Louisiana’s 30th-ranked 2019, Jenkins mentioned to PHLA what improvements he’s made with his skill-set since we talked to him last summer.
“My defensive intensity is still there. I think I’m averaging about two to three steals per game, and I’m forcing a bunch of turnovers. I’m also scoring the ball pretty well right now, I’m averaging about 13 or 14 points per game,” said Jenkins.
“My role has definitely changed from being a role player to being one of the main guys on the team. We only have one senior right now, so my role is to be a leader and show the younger guys the way.”
As he heads into the second half of his season with the Cajuns, Jenkins says he’s looking to showcase his point guard prowess a bit more.
“I think I’m going to try and focus on my point guard skills, it’s obvious I can score the ball, but if I work on getting my guys the ball more, then my game will open up more,” he said.
And just as soon as his junior season is complete, Jenkins will head into an ever-important 17U season.
“I think I am going to play with NOLA 23 again, they give us a lot of exposure,” he said.
“This year, I’m just looking to get more exposure, really. Just not settling, and keep improving my game. And I know if I do that, the college coaches will come.”
