In boxing, a 1-2 punch is considered two quick blows in rapid succession. Some high school basketball teams have two players who can quickly make plays and change the direction of a game. So far we have looked at 1-2 punches in the SEC Red, Grand Rapids area, and Kalamazoo. Now we continue to look at southeastern Michigan’s 1-2 punches.
DETROIT RENAISSANCE
Carrington McCaskill (2019, PF) and Chandler Turner (2019, SG)
McCaskill is a walking highlight reel. He can rock a gym with his skills in the open floor. McCaskill is active around the rim on both ends. He can also shoot the ball with a nice mid range jumper and a solid three point shot off of screens. Turner is a great shooter, especially his mid range jumper off the dribble. He has a perfect frame for his versatile skill set. In fact, Turner is so versatile that he can play four positions at the high school level. These two combined can change the course of a game in the blink of an eye.
CANTON
B. Artis White (2019, G) and Vinson Signon (2019, G)
B. Artis White has become one of the best perimeter defenders in the area. He has gotten stronger and can now check his opponent with contact while still using his quickness. He can shoot the lights out from mid range and deep. Sigmon is also considered a top notch perimeter defender, which creates a backcourt nightmare for opposing players and coaches. Sigmon is excellent at driving and penetrating, which allows him to finish or kick the ball out to B. Artis-White. They are especially dangerous as a duo in the open floor.
WAYNE MEMORIAL
Rashad Williams (2018, G) and Isaiah Lewis (2019, G)
Williams might be the best shooter in Michigan and should be considered among the five best players in the state. He is a tireless worker who constantly performs. Even on ‘off nights’, he’s usually the best player on the floor. Lewis is the definition of a floor general. He is rising on the recruiting boards as he continues his great start to the 2017-2018 season. Lewis can has a solid jumper and moves well without the ball. He always seems to find his teammates, (specifically Williams) when they are open.
EEVP
David Dejulius (2018, PG) and Zavon Godwin (2018, SF)
Dejulius has been nothing short of amazing so far this season. He can shoot from behind the arc off the dribble. Dejuilius’ ability to get to the rim and finish is mind blowing. He has the ability to simply take over a high school game on the offensive end. Godwin has elite athletic skills. He’s strong and can jump through the roof. This creates matchup problems for opponents and allows Godwin to play above the rim when beneficial. He’s a great finisher, especially when he uses his strength to get to the bucket.
