Thompson Fitting in With New Team
Wisconsin’s 2020 class is likely to rival some of the best the state has seen in recent memory. What will surely be a hotbed for coaches across the country in the coming years, the Badger State is ready to yield perhaps up to 10 or more high major players.
One prospect most aren’t talking about enough, La Crosse (Wis.) Central power forward Terrance Thompson, has some of the best upside and overall floor impact they’ll find.
Transferring from Logan to cross-town rival Central, Thompson is finding his niche with the defending Division 2 state champions.
“It was kind of hard at first, but they made it easy for me,” Thompson told Prep Hoops. “Joining them was a good decision. I think I’m playing at a high level with a great team and coaching staff.”
The Red Raiders are currently 9-1 on the year. Playing alongside two other Division 1 prospects, Thompson is second on the team at 13.0 points per game.
Over the summer, Thompson picked up his first scholarship offer from UW-Green Bay.
“I was excited, but I know I have to keep working to get where I want to be,” Thompson said. “They said they liked the way I played, my hustle, and my defensive presence in the paint.”
Thompson is picking up interest from Virginia, Xavier, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Milwaukee, and South Dakota State.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound power forward said the Musketeers seem most serious at this time.
“The one who is keeping up with me the most is Xavier,” said Thompson. “I know they’re all about winning and the academics are very good.”
Thompson’s lone unofficial visit this season was to Wisconsin.
“I really liked it,” he said. “The student section was awesome. I liked the way it felt there.”
The state’s fifth ranked prospect in the class of 2020, Thompson averaged 8.7 points on 51 percent shooting and 4.3 rebounds per game on the Under Armour circuit for the Playground Warriors, who claimed the 15U title.
When it comes time to make a commitment, prestige and track record will play a vital role in Thompson’s college decision.
“I’m going to be looking at if the team is winning, the academics, if they make it to the tournament every year,” he said. “I just want to go to a school that’s known for winning.”
Thompson will run with Playground Elite during the upcoming travel season.
