OCP v.s. Montverde Entails National Audience
This is exactly what Orlando Christian Prep asked for.
Following a wild summer which saw Nassir Little elevate his Division-I profile while vaulting into the upper percentile of the nation’s most sought after recruits, OCP instantly gained increased national visibility.
The evolution of a heady and deft dishing traditional point guard in Buffalo-bound Ronaldo Segu, followed by the emergence of a freakishly athletic high major prospect in 6-foot-7 C.J. Walker kept the program’s prestige intact.
Outspoken about their desire to play against the nation’s elite programs, OCP players asked for a more rigorous schedule in 2017-18, one that included national heavy hitters.
The program will get a thick dose of just that on Thursday. They are slated for a date with no.1 Montverde Academy. And so the Central Florida area will have a national audience, as the heavily anticipated matchup that will be aired on ESPN2 at 5:30 PM.
Montverde is currently 21-0, having pummeled several highly-reputable national programs by 25+ points. It has been an adjustment period for OCP, which has gone 8-7 while transitioning to a national schedule.
Players to Watch: OCP
Nassir Little
The North Carolina-bound senior is a bullish 6-foot-7 scorer who shoots it a high percentage. With his high-rising athleticism, authoritative finishes, and ability to block shots, he’s on constant aerial watch.
Yet Little’s advanced skill set in knocking down the outside shot with consistency (50+ 3FG percentage the last two years), creating for himself and teammates off the dribble, and exposing weaker defenders is most intriguing about his game.
Ronaldo Segu
The high-motored 5-foot-11 guard operates offense at a frenetic pace, consistently whipping fireball type passes to an astonishingly open teammate. Segu’s natural knack for creating and quarterbacking the offense is what made the Buffalo-bound Segu an attractive prospect for 20+ Division-I programs that offered him.
Segu has sneaky bounce and the type of electric handle that allows him to free up space for his shot and keep defenders guessing.
C.J. Walker
With furious hops and a hyper athletic game, Walker has piled up offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Alabama, and a handful of others on the high-major market. Beyond his above the rim theatrics and adeptness in the transition game, Walker has a smooth handle and a catch-and-stick game.
A baseline to baseline threat, Walker is one of the top unsigned prospects in the Class of 2019.
Dejuan Lockett
The crafty forward has good rapport with Segu, stemming back to their days at Olympia. He’s an advanced passing forward who crashes the boards and leaves his fingerprints across all statistical categories. On most other teams throughout the state and the country, Lockett would be the featured scorer. It’s indicative of the depth and power in numbers of this OCP team.
Kai Jones
At 6-foot-10 and capable of running the floor and finishing, Jones has quite the high ceiling. While he’s one of the lesser acclaimed recruits in this star encrusted core, all signs point to Jones erupting this summer.
Jordan Goodson
Once a promising prospect at Boone in Orlando, Goodson has been a major supplementary piece with his toughness as a defender and ability to weave through defenses and score.
