Games to Watch Week 6: Thursday
Thursday night’s games from around the state are featured here. Some nice match-ups in the central and western part of South Dakota plus a terrific inter-state match-up featuring Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Let’s hope the weather holds up and all these games are able to get the green light!
Top Game:
4A #5 Sioux City East (IA) @ AA #1 Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD)
This maybe the best game of the week. It features two teams from two different states both ranked in the top five in the highest classification in their respective states. Sioux City East has a terrific big man Van Rees who is shooting 62.5% from the field (3rd in Iowa 4A). He will face off against Lincoln’s 6’7’’ super athlete Diang Gatluak. That match-up along would be fun however on the perimeter Sioux City East features Aidan Vanderloo, who is averaging 22 ppg, versus Lincoln’s combo of Christophe Bwanye and Dillon Barrow. Plus, Lincoln has showed a lot of balance lately with big games from Alex Glanzer and Jared Janis. I’d say go watch. There’s going to be future college players all over the floor.
Other games to to watch:
AA #3 Rapid City Central @ AA #6 Sturgis Brown
RCC takes it’s unblemished record into Sturgis where the one-loss Scoopers are upset minded. Central is led by the guard combo of Kailleb Walton-Blanden and Dylan Hay. Both have been good this year as Walton-Blanden has demonstrated to be a dynamic play maker and scorer while Hay is one of the toughest kids you will watch play this year. Sturgis hopes for a big night from seniors Connor Crane and Dawson Geuke. We will find out a lot about both teams tonight.
Miller @ B #3 Sully Buttes
Miller has started off hot this year and will take their 7-1 record up against the #3 ranked team in Class B. Sully Buttes is led by senior Lincoln Jordre who will try to score inside as he towers over the competition at 6’9’’. Miller will try to combat Jordre’s size with great permiter play from senior Steven Fernholz and junior Karst Hunter. Both of those two habe good size at 6’4’’ to help on the boards.
Highmore-Harrold @ Herreid/Selby Area
Highmore-Harrold has had a tough schedule to start the season and things won’t get any easier tonight versus Herreid/Selby Area. Highmore-Harrold is led by junior Jharett Bloomenrader who is a nice player that can score at rebound at 6’5’’. Herreid/Selby Area has an answer for Bloomenrader’s size with 6’11’’ senior Richard Seibel. However Herreid/Selby Area’s strength is their scoring balance behind Trevor Begeman and Karson Vander Vorst.
